“…does not seek its own,” 1 Corinthians 13:5 (NKJV)

Often our lives are filled with many different emotions & idols. We think that God will follow us around rather than us follow Him. We desire Him to answer our prayers but we ignore His.

To love God is to seek His will in everything we do. Seeking God’s will is to simply do what is pleasing to God.

“I delight to do Your will, O my God, And Your law is within my heart.” Psalm 40:8 (NKJV)

Sometimes God’s will is not very apparent, nor is it an easy thing to do. How do we know what is pleasing to God?

There are three different ways we can seek the Lord’s will:

1. Pray – prayer in every situation is SO important. Even asking God for the guidance on what to do or what to say is essential in making sure you are walking the path God has set before you.

2. Read – How do we know if something is right or wrong if we don’t read the Bible? So much knowledge, guidance, and instruction are available within the pages of the Bible. I also like to think of the Bible as God’s prayer journal. The Bible is filled with God’s instruction and hope for the Body of Christ.

3. Seek Advice – seeking godly counsel is also very helpful to find out what the next step is in following the purpose God has for your life. The Bible is very clear about fellowship with other believers, this is why it’s a good idea to belong to a Church within your community.

When we learn to seek God’s will in our life then everything else is provided for us. I know it can certainly be difficult at times to do what is required in order to fulfill God’s will in our life, but the Lord has made many promises to us including this one:

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)

In this scripture Jesus is referring to the things we worry about, like money, food, and clothing, being added to us.

God’s will does not include what car we drive, or the label on our clothes. God’s will includes what we do with our time, how we treat those around us, especially during time of conflict. It includes how we spend our money, and getting rid of idols in our life that is holding us back from truly living a life that is pleasing to Him.

When we love God, we will seek His will in everything we do.

Assignment:

List 3 things you know God wants you to change in your life in order to make it more pleasing to Him. Seek out a mentor or accountability partner to help you change these habits.
