Remembering Hope

We’ve been talking about hope this month at CSAHM. If you’ve ever been without hope, you know what it feels like. It’s like being lost in a strange place without any way to find your way back. When we feel hopeless, it seems like everything and everyone important to us is gone. We become paralyzed in our despair. We lose purpose, direction, and faith that anything good can happen.

When life becomes dark and hope seems lost, we need to remember hope. When the present seems hopeless, looking backward can give us hope for the future. Looking back on the ways God has provided, sustained, and upheld us gives us hope in what He will do. Remembering His love and faithfulness gives us confidence that He will continue to love and provide for us. Recalling His promises to us and focusing our heart on who He is gives us great hope.

Today I want to provide Scripture passages to remind us of the hope we have because of Christ. It’s His word that reminds us how to get back home when we’ve lost our way. The Bible points us to His abundant grace in our lives and reminds us that our hope is found in Christ. Even when it seems like hope is gone, it’s never out of reach for Jesus never leaves our side.

“We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield.” Psalm 33:20

“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.” Psalm 62:5

“You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word.” Psalm 119:14

“Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption.” Psalm 130:7

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

“For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.” Romans 15:4

“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.” Ephesians 1:18-19

“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.” 1 Timothy 6:17

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” Hebrews 10:23
