The other day I was sitting on the couch with my 17 month old and she was just leaning on me watching TV, we were just having a very special moment, and then the dryer signal went off, plus it was almost time for me to make lunch anyway, so it was time for me to get up.
All I could think about was how I wish I could just sit there all day with her, but I couldn’t, I had so many things I needed to do, and most of the
chores I had to do were to keep them happy and comfortable.
So I got up and even though she didn’t like it, I had to do it anyway, she needed clean clothes, and she needed to get some food in her little belly.
She did not know she needed these things at the time, but I didn’t want her to be stuck without clean clothes or suffer through the hunger pains, so instead I had to leave her side for a few minutes to make sure those needs were met before she realized she needed them.
So I started thinking, wow, God does laundry too! I am sure He would love to be by our side every moment, but God has things He needs to take care of too. He needs to do our laundry, and make our lunch; He wants to meet our needs before we even know that we have a need!
God is meeting our needs every second of our lives! We shouldn’t get discouraged when we don’t feel His presence nearby we need to remind ourselves that He is just doing our laundry, and know that even if He feels distant, and it feels like He is not even aware of our circumstances or what is happening in our lives, that He is there working behind the scenes making sure we have warm clothes to wear and a belly full of good and nutritious food, and He is just making sure that everything is lined up and ready for our big promotion!
A lot of times when we start on the path to ministry we experience times when God just feels distant; actually this is a frequent occurrence throughout the life of the ministry. So we just need to rise up and trust that God IS doing His part and we need to remind ourselves that Gods timing is the perfect timing.
This may be hard to grasp, and at times it may be very discouraging, but we need to know that it is very necessary! I mean we wouldn’t just ignore the laundry in order to hold our children all day. We as moms just can’t do that. It would do more damage than good. Maybe they would be happy for that moment, but they wouldn’t be happy when they have no clothes to wear and they are cold while they sleep at night, or when they experience the burning sting of hunger pains in their little tummies at dinner time.
So remember, God does laundry too! The things He does while it feels like He is away are necessary to keep us happy and comfortable. The lessons taught may not be fun at the time, but the benefits will grow into many fruitful blessings in the end!
