The Importance of the Bible In a Mother’s Life

Often when we think of the Bible we think of a book that every Christian should read. Some of us may even be a little intimidated by it, or feel overwhelmed at the sheer thought of actually studying and learning God’s word. Maybe there is doubt surrounding the Bible and it’s validity, or confusion about some of the convictions and foundations laid out in the Old Testament.

Whatever your feelings may be towards the Bible, there is one thing I have personally learned about the Bible through my own personal walk with the Lord – reading and studying the word is essential to becoming the Christian wife and mother God has created me to be.

The Bible Offers Renewal

When we read and study God’s word it can become a place of renewal for us after a long day. Let’s face it being a Christian wife and mother is not an easy task. When we are busy changing diapers, cooking meals, doing laundry, offering emotional support and encouragement to our children all day, it can be exhausting. The Bible is full of encouraging words. Through this encouragement Christian mothers can find renewal and feel refreshed to take on whatever the day may hold.

The Bible Offers Guidance and Wisdom

The Bible is also a great source of guidance and wisdom on how you can run your day and parent your children. What better way to learn how to raise our children than to refer to the book written by the perfect Father?

God’s Word is a great parenting help for the Christian Mother by reminding us what’s important. Often as mothers we can get caught up in the mundane tasks we do throughout the day. But when we read and study God’s Word we are able to keep our focus on what truly matters because we have the wisdom given to us through scripture.

When we study God’s Word we also gain knowledge and wisdom that is designed to help our children grow into the people God designed them to be as well. Scripture says:

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Prov 22:6

Training up our children requires self discipline, knowledge, and patience. If we don’t know the word of God then how can we know what to teach them? As a Christian Mother, teaching our children scripture is just one of the many lessons we are called to do.

Studying the Bible Helps us to Discern Between Truth and Lies

Learning the word of God also helps us as Christian Mothers, discern the difference between true and false teachings. As believers it is our right to know the truth and lies surrounding our faith. If we never learn what the Bible says then we are making ourselves vulnerable to possible false teachings. We will never be able to discern the difference between true and false teachings if we don’t learn the word our self, and grow in our own personal relationship with the Lord.

Being a Christian is about relationships, and the most important relationship we have is the one we have with our Lord. Studying the Bible helps us to grow and build up this relationship. When we are in the word we are learning truth, and we are learning more about our Creator.

The Bible Protects Our Minds

As Christian Women we often have a battle going on in our minds. We are easily distracted by the negative thoughts placed in our mind by the enemy. In the Bible it states that the word is the sword of the spirit in the full armor of God. Reading and studying the word helps us to defeat the enemies attack on our minds, marriage, and life!

The Bible Gives Us Peace

I think everyone in their life battles with discontentment some time or another. However I have seen that moms in general battle with discontentment a lot. It might be the worry we struggle with, or feeling like our life is out of our control. Discontentment may come from our desires ruling over our life. Whatever the case may be, the truth is a lot of Christian Mothers struggle with discontentment.

However when we look to God’s word everyday we are often reminded that in Him we are safe. It validates that our thoughts on this life being out of our control is true, it’s really in God’s hands and we can either choose to accept this truth or push against it. When we study the word we realize that true peace can only come from God through our trust and obedience in Him. Through this peace we gain from Him we are able to have a clear mind and a calm heart designed to teach our children to love like Jesus.

In our new found contentment we have a heart prepared to give and to love, and to receive the blessings God Himself has given us. We learn to give up the desire to control, and submit to the call to serve.

The Bible is Essential

Through studying God’s word truth then becomes the cornerstone of a Christian mother’s life and home. We are putting God first, and making Him the center of our life. When we do this as mothers we are inviting the Lord to lead us as we learn to nurture and care for the wonderful blessings the Lord has given us, our children.
