Christian Movie Review: The Happening

Hmmm….let me think about the one word that would describe how I felt about the movie “The Happening”…ok I know the one word – STUPID! OK maybe that’s being a little too harsh considering it’s been a week since I saw this movie and I am still trying to figure the darn thing out.

The Happening is a movie where all these people are dying, actually they are killing themselves on purpose and it is actually caused by some strange phenomenon. I really don’t want to give away what it is because if I do then you would have NO reason to go see this movie, LOL! It is actually figured out pretty early in the movie, I had it on the second “attack”, and even though you realize what’s causing people to lose their minds and kill themselves, it doesn’t really explain why some people are affected and why some people aren’t.

I had a theory which I thought was good but since no one in the movie wanted to clarify more on the what was “happening” and why, my theory will go down in history as just a theory.

This movie is rated R when it didn’t have to be. There was just a lot of unnecessary scenes where you see people killing themselves and it is incredibly graphic. I particularly didn’t care for the part where the person got ran over by a lawn mower – they really could have turned the camera away!

I think Hollywood definitely had their hand in making this movie rated R because they feel people “like” that stuff and I say sorry but we don’t. All in all I give this movie 1 star out of 4 stars, it would have gotten 2 stars if it wasn’t so graphic! I highly recommend going to see a DIFFERENT movie and skip this one entirely. But if your curiosity gets the best of you (like mine) then it is a good renter.

I had so many people say the movie was scary. I didn’t find it scary at all…suspenseful maybe but not scary. It’s funny that I hated this movie so much but yet I still can’t stop thinking about it. LOL. I’m still left figuring out how I feel about it. I know it was definitely stupid but for some reason my mind just keeps thinking about it over and over leaving me wondering if it wasn’t so stupid. UGH I don’t know. LOL
