When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. Genesis 3 :6-7
This was the first act of rebellion in the Bible. Eve ate the fruit that the Lord had forbidden them to eat.
Shortly after was also the first “Blame” Game where Adam told the Lord, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.” Gen. 3:12
How easy it is to say, “Well my wife,” or , “My husband…”
Both Adam and Eve rebelled against the Lord.
What can rebellion cause in our marriages today? In our society, we women are being told to basically live for yourself, you don’t need anyone telling you what to do, etc etc. In my heart and in my own opinion, I feel this attitude is causing many divorces today. This utter rebellion against our husband and against whom God made us to be.
To the woman after the sin had been committed God had told her, “Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.” Gen. 3:16
We are to be ruled by our husbands. Now I am not saying to be abused in your relationship, please seek council right away if this is happening… But this goes back to the “Ugly S Word” I like to call submission.
We are to submit to our husbands as well as unto the Lord and not doing so is rebellion, which you can see is the root of what got Eve in trouble in the first place! We need to live wisely, friends, and not in rebellion, but in Godly submission. Living this way, the Lord will bless you and your marriage.
