Hope in Marriages

“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.”  Romans 5:1-5

Marriages come with trials, many of them. Over the 10 years of being married to my husband, I have learned that marriage has to be worked on every day. Romans 5:1-5 are verses that have helped in our trials not only in our marriage, but also our personal lives.

Give God Glory

Although our marriage has had trials, we’ve learned to give God glory through it all. At first we did not. We fought and our flesh told us to leave so many times. We fought different issues. Some were very hard and we thought they would tear us apart, and they very well could have. At one point I surrendered every part of my flesh and told the Lord I would love Him as I vowed to (only through His power). I honestly feel that we persevered through that very hard time and all the while, even though we suffered, the Lord was building our character; building Hope.

I read from another Christian article, “Hope is based on faith and confidence that God in Christ will bring about new life.”

We gave our life and our marriage to God. We hope and pray every day that through any trials that we face, we will become stronger in our marriage.  We will persevere and our character will be built, it’s what God’s Word says. It is Truth, promise.

Hope is the state which promotes the belief in an outcome related to events and circumstances in one’s life. (Wikipedia.org)

Because we gave our lives and put God first in our marriage, we can HOPE every day that we will not end up another statistic. Because of His Truth and the promise of His Word, He will protect us and see us through our trials. I now look forward to our life together knowing that the hope we share in God will get us though. Not only in our marriage but personally, as well.
