Psalm 23

Psalm 23 is one of the most beloved and well known passages of scriptures. It teaches us that God, above all else, is in control and has your best interest at heart. It reminds all believers that there is a God and He is the one who leads you and cares for you. In essence, David is reminding the believer in this passage of scripture that there is nothing that can come against the believer that God cannot handle.

The first verse is the most profound because in it we are reminded that God will never leave us without. We need God to provide for us, because like sheep, we are not the wisest of beings without His guidance and will in our lives.

We know that if it is Him who provides we can have that peace that comes with resting beside the quiet waters in the green pastures. The believer is reminded that we can have peace that surpasses all understanding. That is what the quiet still water and green pastures represent: A life that has peace!

Psalm 23 also tells us that there is no evil that can overtake us:

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” (v.4)

In our darkest hours, when evil seems to overcome, the Shepherd is there, tapping the staff to lead us out. For there is no temptation that is set before, that we cannot escape! When evil tries to attack, it is the Shepherd’s rod that protects us, fights off the enemy on our behalf, and keeps us from falling into danger! We are safe in His arms.

The truth in God’s abundance provision is also seen when we read about the God preparing a table and anointing the head of his servant. How powerful these words are because they tell us that…

 1. God wants us to have the best and that is why He provides.
 2. God wants to prosper and succeed.
 3. God wants us to enjoy the wonders of what He has to offer so much so that He gives more than we could ever want or need.

Not only does he do all of what has already been mentioned but He takes it a step further and gives us the grace and mercy we need to dwell in His house forever.

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” (v.6)

It is grace and mercy the led us to salvation. It is salvation that gives us the opportunity to receive eternal life.

After reading a scripture like this, how can one ever doubt God’s love for them?

{QOTW}What is Your Favorite EASY Recipe?

whitequestionmarkWelcome to the CSAHM “Question of the Week.” Please feel free to share your answers, ideas, or thoughts to the “Question of the Week” in the comments section below.

This weeks question:
What is your favorite EASY recipe?

I am ALWAYS on the lookout for easy recipes to cook for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. So I thought this week’s question would be helpful to all of us busy moms out there.

My favorite easy recipe is Picante Chicken. Basically you put boneless skinless chicken breasts in the crock pot and cover it with picante sauce. Cook on low for about 6 – 8 hours and you are good to go! It goes great with some black beans, sour cream, and tortilla chips. YUM!

Worshipping In Truth

“Yet a time is coming and has not come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.” John 4:23-24

What is truth? By definition truth is: in reality, in fact, actually.

Jesus said in John 14:6

“I am the way the truth and the life.”

Jesus also said in John 17:17

“Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.”

In the Greek the word ‘sanctify’ is hagiazo meaning set apart for sacred us or make holy.

1 Peter 1:14-16 says,

“As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: ‘be holy, because I am holy’.”

Have you ever wondered why your church service is formatted the way that it is? In most churches we come in, sing songs, hear the word of God preached, have a time to give our tithes and offerings and there is always a time of prayer. God calls us to have order when we gather and in order to worship in truth we need these different acts of worship.

Have you ever not wanted to worship? You woke up grumpy and didn’t want to go to church, but you went anyways and despite your mood when the music began, you began to sing and the more you entered into worshiping God, your attitude started to change. The words in the songs began to speak to you as if God were singing them to you! Because He is!

If you look at David who was called a man after God’s own heart, that true worship recognizes the desperate reality of our present circumstances, yet he focuses on the one who is greater. We are to worship even when we don’t feel like it. The truth will set us free!

Christian Marriage: Pray Together

Praying is important for any person, but it’s even more important for couples to pray together. Married couples find is useful to start their prayer at the beginning of the day.

There are many ways to pray together. You will need to find a way that works for you together and follow that every day. Do some research, contact family, or ask members of your church if you are unsure how to pray together. Here are some of the many ways you can pray together as a couple.

Safety

Start out praying for the safety of each other, your family, your friends, and anyone else that is important to you. You need to start somewhere and this is an easy one to do each day. We all need daily protection and guidance. A short prayer about safety will work such as the one below.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Please keep us safe when we are together and when we are apart. Keep our family safe in their travels throughout the day. Keep the angels around them at all times to protect them and make their way safe.

We thank you and praise you Lord Jesus that you will guide everyone in our lives to safety every day. We pray this in Jesus name.

Amen

If you are going to use the same prayer each day, write it down so you each remember it and you can say it together.

Finances

Finances are something that a couple must deal with each and every day. Praying together for debt reduction is something you could do together as well. This can be difficult at first, but it’s something you will find fulfillment in doing. Pray that God will lead you in the direction you should go, pray that you will always have enough money to pay your bills every month, and pray that you will have the strength to say no when you shouldn’t make a purchase. Here is a prayer you can use.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come to you today for the strength and courage to deal with our finances. We want to follow your direction and do what you want us to do. We pray that you show us the way to pay off our debt and not incur any more. We also pray that you give us the strength to pay cash for things that we need and want.

We praise you and thank you Lord Jesus that you will show us the way to go so we can live the life you have set up for us. We pray this in Jesus might name.

Amen

Safety and Finances are two important things a couple can pray about on a daily basis. Morning prayer time is also a great time for couple’s to discuss their own personal praises, and anything that may be bothering them, and then make the time to pray about these issues.

Praying together is a great way for Christian couples to establish a more deeper connection with the Lord, and each other!

How Does Someone Become a Christian Blogger?

A Christian Blogger’s definition is actually two fold. You can start your own blog or you can comment or guest blog on other blogs or even do a bit of both. The question being, what makes you a “Christian” blogger?

This is answered by evaluating your relationship with the Lord. If you have a close relationship and an open heart, you can ask the Lord to speak through you and that of course will come through when you are blogging. Ask the Lord to guide you in the direction of his will and tell you what your purpose is in beginning and continuing to speak His words through your blog. Understand that you are not only blogging you are providing a ministry and obeying the Lord through your words. This is an awesome responsibility and should never be taken lightly.

Another concept that must be understood when wanting to blog as a Christian is that you must take into consideration that your words will affect others. You will want those who read it to read it with an open heart and an open mind so they too can benefit from the Lord’s word.

Only if you truly trust the Lord that he will guide you and speak through you, only then you may be classified as a true Christian blogger. This will be validated only through the words that you write and how the Lord moves in your life and the lives of others.

Be aware that there are false prophets out there, that claim to be of the Lord so be weary, ask the Lord to show you the truth. This statement applies to not only those who claim to write a Christian blog but those who read them as well.

It is a wonderful undertaking to begin a Christian blog, but just remember to focus on the Lord and what He wants you to do and say rather than the words of unbelievers or those who claim to be of the Lord.

Bible Study Obedience: Overcoming Guilt

The following devotional and Bible Study assignment was taken from our Online Christian Mom Bible Study Group. You can sign up to become a member of the CSAHM Club and gain access to our complete Bible Study on Love. Click here for more information on the Online Bible Study Group for Moms!

***

When the enemy brings guilt into our life it is usually about something we did in our past or our present. He will use our mistakes and deceive us into thinking we either aren’t good enough for what God is calling us to do, or we may fear that whatever has been done in the past or present will happen in the future.

But one thing we need to remember when it comes to what may happen in the future we need to remember that when we rely on God, He can change our hearts. In Him and only Him we have hope to live life abundantly.

We are not what we have done in the past or the present. Right now we are who we are in Christ. Our future hasn’t been written yet. Don’t let the enemy deceive you into thinking that your past will determine your future. God will determine your future, and the more you build your relationship with Him the closer you will become to His will for your life.

How can we move on from our sin?

“And it shall be, when he is guilty in any of these matters, that he shall confess that he has sinned in that thing; Lev 5:5 (NKJV)

Well it is clear in the Bible that we need to first confess our sins to the Lord, and through the blood of Christ we have been forgiven. We just need to believe that Christ died for our sins.

When we first became a Christian this is what we did, however that doesn’t mean we will never have to ask for forgiveness again. As we grow in our relationship with the Lord we will begin to see the specific sin in our life and be able to give that sin over to the Lord.

Sin doesn’t disqualify us from moving forward with God’s plan for our life, it is the pride of never confessing and continuing in the sin that keeps us from Him.

We should never feel guilty for the sins that we have already confessed and that God has already forgiven. God does not use guilt to guide and lead us, He uses conviction.

When it comes down to it, the enemy can’t make us feel guilty. The guilt is a result of our choice to believe the enemy’s deception and lies, rather than believing in the word of God. Through the blood of Christ we have been forgiven, all we need to learn to do is confess & repent of our sins, and this requires daily obedience to the Lord.

He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, R3 the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. Col 1:13-15 (NKJV)

Assignment:

What sins are you holding onto? Are you going to ask the Lord to forgive your sins? Will you allow Him to change your heart so you can move forward in what He has planned for your life? Do you feel that the guilt and shame is your punishment for your sin? According to the Bible is it our place to punish ourselves?

Worshipping In Spirit

When I think of worship I think of this example; you are going to see your favorite band perform. You are so excited about it that you talk about it for weeks before. You listen to every one of the band’s CDs so you that know all of the songs. You even listen to your favorite song over and over again in hopes that they may perform it and when they do, you will know all the words. You get to the concert sitting front row, arms in the air and screaming at the top of your lungs. You are so pumped! In some small form you have just idolized that band.

In the very first commandments, God talks about not worshiping any other god’s but Him. Now I believe God is not saying that you can’t be excited about going to your favorite band’s concert but that God wants us to put Him first. He wants us to worship Him like we were at one of these concerts.

“Yet a time is coming and has not come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.” John 4:23-24

By definition worship means to feel an adoring reverence or regard.

So therefore if we are to worship God in spirit then we need to come with reverence and a right mind, heart, and attitude.

“I will praise the Lord with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation” Psalms 111:1.

Worship is a time of joy and happiness for us. We should look forward to being with other believers to worship God. It is our time to be thankful for God’s faithfulness, unconditional love, and sacrifices made. It is a time in which we are able to bring any concerns or thoughts to Him.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Phil. 4:6-7

“I rejoiced with those who said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord.’” Psalms 122:1

Worshiping in spirit is sincere and must be edifying.

“All of this must be done for the strengthening of the church.” 1 Cor.14:26

Worship should not be about glorifying one’s self rather every act of worship should be for praising and glorifying God.

When we worship we should do so with understanding. Just like when we go to that concert, we know why we are going there. We want to see and hear our favorite band! We should be that way with God. We should know why we are worshiping and that we expect to see and hear Him move in our lives.

“So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit but I will also sing with my mind.” 1 Cor. 14:15

Instilling Modesty in Your Teenager

In today’s world, your teenager is bombarded with many different images. Celebrities dress provocatively, and fashions today leave little to the imagination. Even modern speech shows signs of being immodest. With all that is around your teenager, how can you instill modesty within your teenager? Here are some simple ideas to help you get started.

Modesty is Self Respect

One of the most important teachings that you can provide your teenager, in any sense is the idea of self-respect. Self respect stems from a firm foundation in faith, consistent parenting, and above all, allowing your teenager to discover who and what they are for themselves. If you can instill self respect in your teenager son or daughter, they will be less likely to follow the fashionable trends of the day, revealing more than what is needed.

Modesty doesn’t Equal Being Unfashionable

Teenagers learn best through example. The way you dress, and the way that their peers dress will greatly influence their choices. So it is up to you to show your teenagers that dressing modestly can be even more fashionable and stylish then revealing the majority of their skin. Try dressing in classic fashions, or the updated classics you see in many of the magazines. A well-dressed, modern father can be a great inspiration for any son.

In addition, look around you at your teenager’s friends or acquaintances. Odds are you will find examples of teenagers dressing modestly and still looking very stylish. Take the time to comment to your teenager about what you see, offering kind suggestions to him or her. Remember, though, modesty isn’t only about what your teenager wears on the outside. It is mostly about them realizing that they are special enough not to advertise what they have to the world.

Instill a Solid Foundation

As implied earlier, modesty in its truest form is about respect. Respect for others, respect for parents, but most importantly, respect for oneself. Therefore, instilling modesty in a teenager truly begins long before their teenage years.

It begins with the parent teaching, and treating everyone around the child with the respect deserving of being a human. By laying this foundation, your teenager will be open to the idea that they are worthy and precious in the eyes of God, and therefore should ask for respect from the world around them. They will soon learn that modesty is one of the easiest ways to do just that.

Let’s just pretend for a minute that cleaning the house is fun, and we wake up every morning with the desire to make our house sparkle. While we are pretending, what is your favorite household chore? For me, I actually don’t have to pretend to say that my favorite chore is vacuuming. Seriously, if I am not too tired (which I usually am) then I actually look forward to vacuuming. For some reason it makes me feel relaxed and I get a lot of thinking done during that time. :)

How can Christian Blogging Impact My Life and Others?

Christian blogging or reading a Christian blog can affect the life of those who write it and those who read it as well. Someone who begins a Christian blog does so with a purpose. That purpose being to spread the word of the Lord. This will impact their life far beyond just words on a page.

God will speak through them and guide them not only in the development in their blog but with everything they do in their daily existence. Writing a Christian blog is more than just writing a blog geared towards the values of God, it’s a heartfelt ministry. Christians are called by the Lord to begin this ministry as per His will.

Being so chosen by God to spread His word will change and impact everything they now do in their daily existence. They will now have a closer relationship and they will lead their life according to His purpose, things will never be quite the same.

As you can see beginning a Christian blog is truly an act of love and devotion, but what impact does it have to those who choose to read it? Because of the fact that the Christian blog is a blog full of words spoken from God, it has the distinct possibility to speak to those who read it as well. The only prerequisite is that the reader must have an open heart.

The Lord is capable of effecting the lives who those who seek Him, even through something as simple as a blog. The Lord can show them that to follow His word and His teachings will change their lives in more ways that they can possibly imagine. All this can be achieved through an online devotional blog, more than possible if you have faith and believe in the Lord’s blessings.

A believer who pens a Christian blog and those who are open enough to read it can truly have their lives impacted and changed through the Lord’s strength and love. Not just a simple journal but a journal that can bring both the reader and the writer closer to the one who loves us the most.

“And your ears will hear a word behind you, saying, This is the way; walk in it, when you turn to the right hand and when you turn to the left.” Isaiah 30:21 (Amplified)

Over the years there have been many instances where God has truly called our family to be obedient to Him before revealing to us as to why He has called us to do go through that particular journey. One of the most recent situations was when an opportunity arose for my husband to further his education and attend Paramedic School.

My husband knew from the time he started the Fire Department that he wanted to become a Paramedic, and about every two years the department would open up the opportunity for the Firefighters to be sponsored by the Fire Department in a local Paramedic class. We had been waiting for the right time to take this next step. Well one time the opportunity became available again and even though we were already a pretty busy family, we felt like we should take advantage of the opportunity, go through the process, and see if God would open the door.

We really couldn’t explain why we felt the need to go through this process, but we felt that if it wasn’t God’s timing for us then the door would close. Well needless to say the door did not close, and even though we still had no real clear path laid before us, we went ahead and decided to be obedient to God. Till this day we have no idea of what God has planned for this opportunity, however God has provided for us, guided us, and has given us the strength to walk this path. I believe this is a result of us being obedient to Him.

“Now therefore, if you will obey My voice in truth and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own peculiar possession and treasure from among and above all peoples; for all the earth is Mine. “ Exodus 19:5 (Amplified)

Assignment:

In the past what are some ways God has lead you in His will for your life? Do you trust God enough to guide you through every area of your life? Right now would you be willing to take a leap of faith and follow God’s lead on a path where the outcome isn’t quite clear yet?

Hiding God’s Word in Your Heart

One thing that I have learned through my walk with the Lord, is that it is very important to memorize God’s words.

Psalms 119:10-11 says

“I see you with all of my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”

What does “I have hidden your word in my heart” really mean? You can’t place the actual Bible in your heart. It is not an organ that you need to live physically. So let’s take a minute and break it down. What does the word hide or hidden mean?

Definition of Hide: to conceal from knowledge or exposure; keep secret: to hide one’s feelings.

So basically the word “hide” means to conceal. So why would you want to conceal or hide something? And what would you conceal or hide? I know I would hide or conceal my most treasured things. If I knew today that I was going to have my house broken into I would hide my most valuable, treasured items so they were protected.

Matthew 6:19-21 talks about storing up treasure in heaven rather than on earth, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Let me ask you, do you treasure the Word in your heart? Do you love it? Do you do whatever you can to have it?

Having the Word in your heart helps you stand against the devil’s schemes, trials and temptations.

Ephesians 6:12

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, and against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

There have been so many times in my life that I have needed to stand on a solid rock and remember what God has done for me and that He is there to be my strength.

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.” Is. 40:29,31

“I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” Phil. 4:13

Knowing what God’s word says and standing on His promises are very powerful tools for a Christian.

Teaching Your Teen to Walk In the Way of the Lord

In today’s world, teenagers are presented with many different ideas and concepts, and not all of them are consistent with Christian teachings. Television, radio, even friends and classmates all can present enticing ideas to your teenager that can lead them astray from the path of faith.

As a parent, you have been entrusted with the task of teaching your teen how to walk in the way of the Lord. If you’re struggling, here are a few ideas that just might help.

Tip # 1: Read and Study the Bible

Believe it or not, if you want to teach your teenager how to walk with the Lord, and have relationship with him, reading the Bible is essential. The Bible can offer more than just parables or dynamic stories of the Exodus from Egypt. This is the Word of God, and it can be used to provide insight and advice into nearly every aspect of your life. By openly studying the Bible and it’s many teaching, and then applying what you have learned to your daily life, you can lead by example.

Tip # 2: Let Your Teenager Be Unique

One of the most common mistakes that parents make with raising their teenager is to think that every walk in the way of the Lord must be exactly like their own. Just as the Lord created all of us as unique individuals with special talents and inspiration, each path will be unique as well. As a parent, it is imperative that you make sure that your teenager’s heart is right with Christian values. If it is, then their outfits and methods of praise and worship will be music to God’s ears.

Tip # 3: Remember Faith is about Choice and Action

Many parents make the choice to drag their teenager children to church on a regular basis. While they do so with the best of intention, this forceful action can lead to unintended consequences. During these years, most teens are trying to find their own path, their own relationship with God. Because of this, most teenagers are highly resistant to having a faith forced upon them. Instead, guide them by offering them the choice to go with you to church on Sunday, and respect their wishes. By being consistent, and respecting their decision about how they act on their faith, you represent the Christian faith better than any preacher.

What is Christian Blogging?

Blogging has exploded over the internet as of late. It seems as if anyone who has a computer and internet connection also has one or more blogs. If you happen to have been living on a desert island somewhere and don’t know what a blog is, it’s actually quite simple. A blog is an online journal and those that add input to a blog are known as bloggers.

A blog which is actually short for a weblog, can focus on just about anything. There are blogs dedicated to a business, losing weight, dogs, cats, and babies, anything the stretch of the imagination can think of. Even with blogs being so common today there is a term that is not so common, that is a “Christian” Blog or “Christian” Blogging.

Both of those terms are easy to define but may be a bit more difficult to put into action. A Christian Blog is a blog which is devoted to a Christian value and/or geared to a Christian value. A Christian may choose a subject to blog about and then spread God’s word on the subject through what they are writing.

This will become a powerful blog and through God’s blessing may ultimately help many individuals who are drawn to read it. A Christian blog will be assisted by the Lord and through thoughtful pray and devotion the Lord will make the decisions on what shall be written and the direction the blog will ultimately take.

Christian Blogging can be defined as blogging with a Christian heart and using God’s word or having the Lord speak through the blogger to spread a message. Whether it be on the bloggers own blog or commenting on another blog or even guest blogging on non Christian blogs, the blogger will speak the word of the Lord and use his wisdom and guidance on where and what they will say.

A Christian blog or Christian blogging is ultimately led and decided by the Lord. Having the Lord move and speak to you to spread his word is an extremely powerful occurrence.

If you believe in the Lord with all your heart and open you heart to him, he will help and guide you to blog as a Christian would. Do not take this lightly, if the Lord decides to speak to you through blogging represent him proudly and spread his word to all those who will listen and read it.

No Need to Worry

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:30)

Do you ever find yourself saying…

 • How am I going to pay this bill?
 • What will they say about me?
 • I can’t do this without…and I really can’t afford that.
 • Why did this have to happen now?

Worry seems to be a major issue with many Christians and according to the Word, it should not even be a problem.

We are told in Matthew that we are not to worry about tomorrow because it really does have its own set of troubles. That means that there is nothing you can really do about it anyway, so why are you so concerned. Only through the power of God can you accomplish anything.

“Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?” (Matthew 6:30)

It is God that provides everything. He even cares for the lilies and grass in the field! Why would He not take care of you?
He created you to have dominion over the very things he clothes. Why would He not care for you?

When we worry, we are telling God that we don’t trust that He can do all things. We are telling Him that He is in essence a liar when he says that with Him all things are possible.

There are many reasons why we worry and each one stems from fear:

 • Fear of not knowing
 • Fear of losing control
 • Fear of being without
 • Fear of having to let go of earthy treasures

Fear gives power to the enemy. It is a spirit that keeps us in a pit, instead of helping us out of it. Fear is the caveat that leads to missed opportunities, walking the wrong path, and missing out on the fullness of God’s blessings.

What we have to remember as God’s Children is that we are not given the spirit of fear.

The word tells us what kind of spirit we do have.

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)

So when you worry know that it stems from fear and that it does not come from God. He is our shepherd and wants only the best for us. Stop worrying, trust God, and know that with Him all things really are possible!

Challenges of Raising Christian Children

Children are perhaps one of the greatest, if not the most heart wrenching and frustrating gifts from the Lord. As a parent, you are entrusted with raising them with strong Christian values, knowledge of right and wrong, and the skills needed to make the right choices when the time comes.

You also might realize that there are a number of challenges facing you as you undertake this task. Here are a few of the challenges that you might come across. If you do, don’t fret. By keeping your faith in the forefront of everything you do, even the most turbulent of children will make you and your God beam with pride.

The first challenge that you as a parent may face is the simple fact that all humans are unique.

A shy reserved mother just might bear the most extroverted little boy she has ever seen. Or a father’s daughter might test every command, and try and break every rule, while her father followed the straight and narrow path.

While these examples can lead some parents to try and pull out their hair, a Christian parent will soon realize that this diversity is simply an example of the creativity of God. Each unique child will grow into a unique individual, with the ability to give great and wonderful things to the world.

As it is said in I Corinthians 12:21

“The eye cannot say to the hand ‘I don’t need you!’ And the head cannot say to the feet, ‘I don’t need you!’”

This simple truth can serve as a reminder to all of us, that all is needed and accounted for in God’s plan.

Of course, even if you master the challenges presented by your own children, there is still the world to contend with.

The world, more then ever, will present your children with secular influences, ones that parents will have to compete with on a daily basis. From television shows that degrade humans, or video games that show the wholesale destruction of the world that God created, it is little wonder why children today are losing their faith.

However, as a parent, you have the ability to make sure that your children grow in faith. Your steadfastness, your wisdom can be the foundation that they need to see the world for what it is, and how to interact with it.

By showing them how to act through your interaction with people, you can deal with the challenges of raising Christian children with the strength and security found only with God.

Raising Christian children is certainly challenging. But with the Lord on your side, gripping the Bible in your hands, and the word firmly planted in your heart, everything will turn out alright.

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Prov 22:6

{QOTW}What Is the Last Book You Read?

whitequestionmarkWelcome to the CSAHM “Question of the Week.” Please feel free to share your answers, ideas, or thoughts to the “Question of the Week” in the comments section below.

This weeks question:
What is the last book you read?

I have to say I am terrible with starting a book and never completing it. I’ve read books, but I haven’t necessarily finished them. With that being said the last book I read (besides the Bible) is the 4:8 Principle which is a very good book. I’m thinking about reading it again soon.

I’ve definitely referred back to the Philippians 4:8 since I read this book because it just makes sense, why focus on what you don’t even know to be true and focus on what you DO know to be true. I know I spend a lot of time focusing on what isn’t true and it’s amazing how those thoughts can RULE over your life.

When I was growing up I wanted to be a business owner. My teachers would ask me “what kind of business?” and I would say “I don’t know, just a BIG business.” SO I wanted to be the CEO of a company. I guess I got my wish, I am CEO of my HOME. ;)

Praying for Your Teenager

As a Christian parent, one of the most effective ways that you can influence the faith of your teenager is through prayer. Believe it or not, the simple act of praying to God about your teenager is a great way to bring about changes if necessary, or reinforce the steadfastness that they already experience. If you aren’t quite sure on how to exactly pray for your teenager, here are a few hints to help you start.

Get Organized

Prayer, especially for a teenager is most effective when it is preformed on a regular basis. One of the easiest ways to accomplish this is through organization. For example, many prayerful parents have a notebook, divided into seven sections, one for each day of the week. In each section, write your teenager’s name, and what they feel you should pray about, as well as any insights given to you during your conversations with God. The items for prayer can be as simple as praying to ensure that your son obeys his curfew, or to pray that your daughter will not give into temptation and try to drink alcohol over at a friend’s house.

Pay Attention to What Your Teenager Needs and Desires

As a parent, you know that the needs of your teenager will always be changing. They are growing and evolving into adults, and your prayer life can be an important part of who and what they become. Therefore, it is important to make sure that your praying for your teen is targeted and reflect their needs at the time.

Pray from Scripture

Like it or not, there will be days when you simply don’t know what or how to pray. Perhaps the day itself has been trying, or the subject matter is just too complicated to put into words. When these times arise, the best course of action to take is to utilize the many prayers contained within the Bible. Prayers found in Ephesians 1:17-19, and Philippians 1:9-11 are some beautiful and vibrant examples.

By being consistent, paying attention to their true needs, and using scripture when necessary, you can create a vibrant, prayer life on behalf of your teenager. With regular, honest prayer, there is a strong chance that you will see the fruits of your efforts before you know it.

The Importance of the Bible In a Mother’s Life

Often when we think of the Bible we think of a book that every Christian should read. Some of us may even be a little intimidated by it, or feel overwhelmed at the sheer thought of actually studying and learning God’s word. Maybe there is doubt surrounding the Bible and it’s validity, or confusion about some of the convictions and foundations laid out in the Old Testament.

Whatever your feelings may be towards the Bible, there is one thing I have personally learned about the Bible through my own personal walk with the Lord – reading and studying the word is essential to becoming the Christian wife and mother God has created me to be.

The Bible Offers Renewal

When we read and study God’s word it can become a place of renewal for us after a long day. Let’s face it being a Christian wife and mother is not an easy task. When we are busy changing diapers, cooking meals, doing laundry, offering emotional support and encouragement to our children all day, it can be exhausting. The Bible is full of encouraging words. Through this encouragement Christian mothers can find renewal and feel refreshed to take on whatever the day may hold.

The Bible Offers Guidance and Wisdom

The Bible is also a great source of guidance and wisdom on how you can run your day and parent your children. What better way to learn how to raise our children than to refer to the book written by the perfect Father?

God’s Word is a great parenting help for the Christian Mother by reminding us what’s important. Often as mothers we can get caught up in the mundane tasks we do throughout the day. But when we read and study God’s Word we are able to keep our focus on what truly matters because we have the wisdom given to us through scripture.

When we study God’s Word we also gain knowledge and wisdom that is designed to help our children grow into the people God designed them to be as well. Scripture says:

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Prov 22:6

Training up our children requires self discipline, knowledge, and patience. If we don’t know the word of God then how can we know what to teach them? As a Christian Mother, teaching our children scripture is just one of the many lessons we are called to do.

Studying the Bible Helps us to Discern Between Truth and Lies

Learning the word of God also helps us as Christian Mothers, discern the difference between true and false teachings. As believers it is our right to know the truth and lies surrounding our faith. If we never learn what the Bible says then we are making ourselves vulnerable to possible false teachings. We will never be able to discern the difference between true and false teachings if we don’t learn the word our self, and grow in our own personal relationship with the Lord.

Being a Christian is about relationships, and the most important relationship we have is the one we have with our Lord. Studying the Bible helps us to grow and build up this relationship. When we are in the word we are learning truth, and we are learning more about our Creator.

The Bible Protects Our Minds

As Christian Women we often have a battle going on in our minds. We are easily distracted by the negative thoughts placed in our mind by the enemy. In the Bible it states that the word is the sword of the spirit in the full armor of God. Reading and studying the word helps us to defeat the enemies attack on our minds, marriage, and life!

The Bible Gives Us Peace

I think everyone in their life battles with discontentment some time or another. However I have seen that moms in general battle with discontentment a lot. It might be the worry we struggle with, or feeling like our life is out of our control. Discontentment may come from our desires ruling over our life. Whatever the case may be, the truth is a lot of Christian Mothers struggle with discontentment.

However when we look to God’s word everyday we are often reminded that in Him we are safe. It validates that our thoughts on this life being out of our control is true, it’s really in God’s hands and we can either choose to accept this truth or push against it. When we study the word we realize that true peace can only come from God through our trust and obedience in Him. Through this peace we gain from Him we are able to have a clear mind and a calm heart designed to teach our children to love like Jesus.

In our new found contentment we have a heart prepared to give and to love, and to receive the blessings God Himself has given us. We learn to give up the desire to control, and submit to the call to serve.

The Bible is Essential

Through studying God’s word truth then becomes the cornerstone of a Christian mother’s life and home. We are putting God first, and making Him the center of our life. When we do this as mothers we are inviting the Lord to lead us as we learn to nurture and care for the wonderful blessings the Lord has given us, our children.

Friday Finances: Five Tips to Save on Grocery Bills

Being a stay at home mom requires us to pinch pennies wherever we can, and most veteran CSAHM’s will tell you the easiest place to cut down on your budget is in the grocery bill.

Below are 5 tips to save on your grocery bill:

1. Buy in bulk. If you do not belong to Costco, Sam’s Club or BJs, now may be the time to join. You can save quite a bit of money on bulk groceries and over-the-counter drugs.

2. Check the Sunday newspapers for grocery pull-out ads with coupons. The circular denotes sales for that week, and you can buy in bulk by taking advantage of sale items.

3. Check online grocery coupons frequently. There are many websites where you can print out coupons for a variety of items.

4. Refrain from impulse buying. Make a grocery list and stick to it. Before you shop, have breakfast or lunch (grocery shopping on an empty stomach promotes excessive purchasing). Check your supermarket website to determine what’s on sale, and for paper goods, either buy generic brands or take a trip to the dollar store.

5. Purchase store brands where applicable. You can save money while not sacrificing taste. Pick up the store circular upon entering the supermarket. There may be in-store sales that were not advertised in the Sunday newspaper.

Finally, here are some additional tips:

Buy a freezer. Even a small one will help you make the most of great sales on meats and other perishables.

Stock up after Thanksgiving. There are more food coupons issued in November and December than in any other month. Combined with pre- and post-holiday sales, the end of the year is tops for food savings.

While shopping, scan the shelves above and below eye level. That’s where you’ll find the cheaper items. If it’s looking right at you, it’s more expensive.

Join frequent-shopper programs. Store-incentive programs can slice up to 10 percent off your total bill. Join them all!

Mix it yourself. You can pay up to 50 percent more for foods that come with sugar, spices, or sauces already mixed in. Pre-mixed juice costs a hefty 60 percent more than frozen concentrate.

Bigger isn’t always cheaper. Sometimes the unit price is the same whether you buy regular size or jumbo.

Pick up large bags of frozen vegetables instead of the boxes, which generally cost more per serving.

Don’t buy toiletries at the grocery store unless you a have coupon. The price can be 25 percent higher than what you’d pay at the drugstore.

Go with paper plates. Plastic usually costs twice as much.

God is Always With You

There are times when you may feel as if you are alone. That happens to many people. It is not unlikely for a person to feel as if no one understands, no one gets it, or no one really cares. Feelings like this can lead one to feel very lonely and as if God really does not care; or is not there for you.

However, in Matthew 28:20, Jesus, tells us that He is with us always, even to the ends of the World. That means that He never leaves you! Why would He. He loves you with an unconditional love and knows that for Him to leave you would be like throwing you into a dangerous pit.

The Bible is full of scriptures that remind us that God is always there for us.

Genesis 28:15 says,

“ And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.” (KJV)

That means that whatever God has for you, He is there to help you finish it to completion. All it takes is for you to believe and receive!

If you are still in doubt, read, Deuteronomy 31:6 which says…

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” (NIV)

Simply put, God is right there for you and He will never let you down. We let ourselves down when we place false hopes and dreams in the midst of the path God has for us.

God has a specific plan set for each one of us. When we don’t follow the plan, it may appear that He is not there. However, even in the midst of the mess we create, there is God making a way out of what seems to be no way.

No matter what you may feel, the fact remains that God is right there with you, through it all! There is nothing that man can do that will cause God to turn from you when you are obedient to His Word and call on your life.

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ”Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

So we say with confidence:

“The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:5-6 (NIV)

Following God may seem like a lonely road and in terms of people sometimes it is. However, in terms of a Father who has more love for you than the world over, it is never true. He will never leave you nor forsake you.

Tips for Raising a Christian Teenager

As a parent that is committed to raising your teenager with strong Christian values, you know that there are many obstacles set in front of you. From a world that rarely shares your values, to the unique teenager standing before you in defiance, it is little wonder why most parents throw their hands up in frustration. However, it is possible to raise vibrant, God-knowing teenagers who exist as beacons of hope and light in this world.

Tip # 1: Talk with Your Teenager

Believe it or not, one of the most important tools that you have in raising a Christian teenager is the art of conversation. As you remember, the teenage years are a time of discovery, of finding out who and exactly what the teenager wishes to be. Phrases such as “Because I said so!” or “I am the parent, and what I say goes,” aren’t as effective as they once were. Your teenager will have the intelligence to understand the reasoning behind your decrees. If presented with a valid argument, chances are they’ll be more likely to listen, and ultimately obey.

Tip # 2: Be Consistent with the Consequences

Part of being a teenager is about testing boundaries. Teenagers need to discover for themselves exactly what is allowable, and what is not. As such, a parent needs to be consistent with how they enforce the rules, and be careful to make the consequences of an action known. If you tell your teenager that he must be home by 10:30pm on Friday night, or he will be grounded for the next day, that is what you should do.

While it is important to be consistent with your punishment, there is also an opportunity to show examples of God’s mercy and grace. For example, if your teenager calls ahead and tells you that he might be a few minutes late, consider acting in good faith and forgiving him when he is late. Or, when your teenage daughter scratches the back bumper of your car because she accidentally ran into the neighbor’s fence, try and put yourself in her place. Forgiveness isn’t always about the big ideas or complicated actions. Sometimes it is as simple as forgiving something small.

Tip # 3: Share Your Faith

Going regularly to church or worship is a wonderful way to reinforce faith in your teenager’s life. It isn’t the only one. The act of discussing your personal faith with your teenager is a powerful way to help them create their own special bond with their Lord and Savior. It is important to make your faith a part of the everyday discussions, either directly or indirectly. Discuss your doubts, your questions, as well as your faithful certainties. By presenting your faith as a growing and changes with your experience, your teenager might very well grow in faith as well.

About Auto-B-Good

An excerpt from the website:

Currently airing on Public Television stations across the United States and expanding around the world, this series is one of the most popular character education series today. Our Public School Edition is the hands-down favorite of educators and students alike and is utilized in over 4500 schools nationwide.

My Review

I really enjoyed this series and so did all three of my kids. According to the website the message is for 4-10 years, but even my 12 year old sat down to watch the show.

I will say that the impression my kids first got from the DVD cover is that it was for “babies.” However once we started the show they were intrigued for sure.

The message sent within the Auto-B-Good movies is just wonderful. I love how they tell a story where character issues are addressed within the personal relationships the cars have with each other, and then they complete the show with a song about Jesus and how the character issue applies to their relationship with the Lord.

The message of the gospel is spelled out loud and clear within the Auto-B-Good show, specifically through the songs at the end of each show, and it is a message of love and sharing that love with others around you.

I give the Auto-B-Good series two thumbs up! Not even a day after watching the show my son was already asking to watch it again, so I think my kids give it two thumbs up too!

Ten Things All Five-Year-Olds Should Know About Money

Teaching young children about money can go a long way in preparing them for the future. Children learn and mimic their parents’ behavior. Thus, if you talk to your child about money when they are young, and set an example for them as they grow, they will be that much more aware and fiscally responsible as adults.

Here are some suggestions on what to tell your five-year-old about money:

 1. Although it may be a cliché, you can still tell them that “money doesn’t grow on trees.” Explain how mommy and daddy make money.
 2. Sit your child down, show them coins and dollars of different denominations and explain what they are.
 3. Explain the importance of tithing money.
 4. Explain why it’s a good idea to save money.
 5. Talk to your child about banks and what they are for.
 6. Explain how a budget works and why it is important.
 7. Talk about how saving money for something you really want is important.
 8. On your next trip to the supermarket, show your child the different prices of items.
 9. Tell your child that once you spend money for groceries, you have to save money for the following week so you can buy more groceries.
 10. Explain how money is used to purchase different things.

Another important aspect in teaching children about money is to utilize a visual component such as showing the child different coins, taking the child to the supermarket and pointing out different prices, having your child watch you as you balance your checkbook, or figuring out the household budget for the month.

Suggested Activity: Play store. Once your child knows how much a penny, nickel, dime, and quarter is worth try setting up a pretend store around your house. Place different items around the house and put price tags on them. Set up a cashier counter with a table, box, or chair. Create a cardboard cash register and buy some play money and you are all set to go! This is a fun and easy way to teach your kid’s about how to count money.

How to Teach Your Child to Give Thanks

Give Praise

Giving thanks is an important part of life. So many times we see those who are not thankful, not grateful, but selfishly act as if everything should be given to them, whether they deserve it or not.

God has given us more than any person ever could even if we didn’t deserve any of it. From the death of His Son Jesus, to our every need being met, God supplies it all. For no reason other than that He gave us life we should praise and thank Him, but even more so for all he does for us daily.

“pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus”
1 Thessalonians 5:17-18

Do you teach your child to give thanks? How can you do so?

Teaching our children to give thanks is something we should definitely make a priority in our lives. There are various ways we can do so, from pointing out that God is the reason that we have certain things to actually leading them in a prayer of thanks.

Mealtime and bedtime prayers are a great place to start, but actually acknowledging God’s blessings in the mundane everyday things of life is even more important. This helps our “giving of thanks” to become less routine and planned to being more spontaneous and real.

Don’t forget to stop and honor God when a blessing occurs in your everyday life. Talk to your children about how God works and move in your own life to make them aware of His presence and His being deserving of their thanks.

One of the ways that I make sure I am thankful daily is by writing down my prayers as well as a list of things I am thankful for. Many people keep a gratitude journal with lists of things that they are thankful for daily. This is a great practice and can be used for children as well.

No matter how you teach them, just be sure it is an important part of your life, to teach your child to be thankful. It is never a bad trait to have.

What Does the Bible Say About Bankruptcy?

In a very real sense, bankruptcy is about forgiveness. It is a way for the borrower to pay their debts, either in part, as in Chapter 7 bankruptcy, or over time through Chapter 13 bankruptcy. Surprisingly for some, there is support within the Bible for such generous acts.

For example, Deuteronomy 15: 1-2 says the following:

At the end of every seven years, you shall grant a release. And this is the manner of the release: every creditor shall release what he has lent to his neighbor. He shall not exact it of his neighbor, his brother, because the Lord’s release has been proclaimed.

Now, in truth, these verses are talking about the year of Sabbath, which occurred every seven years, but the idea of creditors forgiving their debtors is not without merit, even in this modern day.

Of course, the act of forgiving a debt does not mean that someone should borrow indiscriminately, and without a plan. There are numerous versus within the Bible extolling the virtues of borrowing money responsibly.

For example, in Psalms 37:21:

The wicked borrows but does not pay back, but the righteous is generous and gives;

Furthermore, in Romans 13:18, a Christian is encouraged to:

Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law.

Also, in Ecclesiastes 5: 4-5, the importance of a vow or promise to repay a debt is illustrated:

When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow. It is better not to vow than to make a vow and not fulfill it.

Based on these verses, and others found throughout the Bible, the borrower is obligated to repay his debt, in full, under the criteria of the original loan. While this might seem to exclude filing bankruptcy, it does not. Filing Chapter 13 bankruptcy does not mean that your debts are forgiven; it only means that the debt will be repaid over a longer period of time.

The Bible does not forbid bankruptcy, and does offer instances of debt forgiveness, but it is important to realize that borrowing and paying debts in a responsible manner should be a goal of any Christian.

Teaching Your Child Meal Time Prayers

As Christians, giving thanks is an important part of our relationship with God. We want to show our gratitude to him, so even from the time we are very young we learn to say our prayer of thanksgiving especially at meal time.

You as a result will likely start early on in life attempting to teach your child to say their “mealtime prayer”. There are several common prayers that are often taught to children from an early age these include:

Prayer: A Child’s Grace

God is great and God is Good,
And we thank God for our food;
By God’s hand we must be fed,
Give us Lord, our daily bread.
Amen.

– Traditional

Children’s Mealtime Prayer

Thank you for the world so sweet,
Thank you for the food we eat.
Thank you for the birds that sing,
Thank you God for everything.

– Author Unknown

These and others like them are repetitious and rhythmic therefore are easier for children to recall and learn. You may also try prayer that is set to music to help them to learn them easier.

Another strategy if your child is really small is to have them to repeat the prayer to you line by line until they can say it on their own, without your assistance.

As they grow you want to teach your child to not only just “recite” a mealtime prayer but to begin to develop their own blessings. Even though it is a “blessing” and a prayer of thanks you want to teach them that all prayers should be sincere. We never want our children to be insincere when talking to God therefore you should be sure to teach them the importance of reference when it comes to talking to God. No matter what the occasion.

Start earlier, even when they are small children can learn to give thanks to God and to lift up a prayer to him. Over time it will become more and more important to them and an important part of your mealtime. It can also be a positive witness to those around you or to those who enjoy a meal with your family from time to time. It can also help your child to share Jesus with others.

Christian Movie Review: Robin Hood

Every Robin Hood movie I have seen have all been different. A different story on how Robin Hood became the “hero” he became by stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. There is also always a different story as to how Robin Hood and Maid Marion met. It’s really difficult to know what really happened with the legend of Robin Hood, however this version of the story is completely different than what I’ve known before.

In the 2010 release of the Robin Hood movie, you can definitely tell that the writers had no intention of following along the typical Robin Hood story. Which I guess is very creative, but made watching the movie a bit confusing.

Was this movie entertaining, yes. Worth watching, I guess if you don’t have anything better to do. There were many violent scenes within this movie, and a lot of drinking. There was also a scene where the King was obviously naked, along with his mistress. And several other scenes where there were women who were undoubtedly portrayed as prostitutes. There was also a scene of an attempted rape, and even an almost mass killing. All of this was a bit disturbing to watch.

I guess my view point of Robin Hood is a bit skewed. I view stealing as stealing and I think it’s wrong. Were the circumstances the people of Nottingham put through right? No. However I still feel the entire story of Robin Hood to be a bit contradictory. Basically the message it is sending to the world is compromise. It’s OK to steal if you are giving it to people who are less fortunate? I don’t think so.

Overall the entire story of Robin Hood should be followed by a good discussion on how wrong is wrong, and that stealing isn’t the answer to solving ones financial woes. This movie is rated PG-13 and I feel the rating was appropriate for the content. Even though my review of this movie is highly critical, I do believe that it is still a great discussion starter for kids of the appropriate age. I do recommend parents watching the movie with their children so they can discuss the moral of the movie together.

I give this movie a rating of 2 out of 5 stars.

How Tithing and Offerings Impact the Christian Life

In today’s modern world, the idea of tithing and making regular offering to God has fallen by the wayside for many individuals. Many are struggling financially, and the idea of relinquishing some of your financial wealth or possessions simply doesn’t seem like good financial sense.

Tithing and offerings are not about the Christian giving his own money to the Lord, but rather an act of returning it to the original owner. All things exist through His grace, and therefore in truth, the wealth that you have, you keep only as a steward upon His behalf. So, if you think about it, when a Christian chooses not to tithe, he is in fact stealing from God.

According to Malachi 3:7-10:

Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the Lord of hosts. But ye said,’ Wherein shall we return? Will a man rob God?’ Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, ‘Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse, for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessings that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

In this passage, there are two very important ideas that should be recognized. The first is that tithes and offerings are returned to God, and not given. Christians are stewards of what they have, and therefore the possessions within our care should be treated with respect and love.

There is a difference between tithes and offerings, and it is one that many Christians fail to realize. A tithe, by definition is a proportionate part of your gross income, usually 10%. An offering is what you choose to give back to God above and over that 10%.

So, besides not stealing from God, why should a Christian provide tithes and regular offerings? The passage in Malachi quoted above provides a very real incentive. Whatever is returned to God, He will return in full. If you return to God what is His, He will in turn bless you with the promise and grace that only he can provide. What could be a better incentive than that?

Teaching Your Child the Ten Commandments

As a family you may have rules, they may include things like not talking while an adult is talking or not leaving the house without telling an adult where you are going. There are many reasons for setting rules in a family not only to maintain order but to keep everyone safe.

God has made some rules for us as well, we know them as the “Ten Commandments”.

These rules are found in the Bible in Exodus 20 and are God’s guidelines for us:

“And God spoke all these words, saying: ‘I am the LORD your God…

ONE: ‘You shall have no other gods before Me.’

TWO: ‘You shall not make for yourself a carved image–any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.’

THREE: ‘You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.’

FOUR: ‘Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.’

FIVE: ‘Honor your father and your mother.’

SIX: ‘You shall not murder.’

SEVEN: ‘You shall not commit adultery.’

EIGHT: ‘You shall not steal.’

NINE: ‘You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.’

TEN: ‘You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.’

Teaching your children the Ten Commandments will help them to understand what God sees as sin and what God wants us to abstain from, however it is important to help your child to understand that sin is sin and that God does not see one sin as being “worse” than another though we as humans might.

You can point out to your child that some of the Ten Commandments have become part of our modern day society’s laws, such as murder or stealing, but that some of them are still just things that God has laid out for us, such as “Honoring your father and mother” or “not taking the Lord’s name in vain.”

Some activities for teaching the ten commandments to your child:

We must teach our children that though these rules may not be honored by everyone that we should strive to abide by and honor them as we honor God as our Lord and Savior. It is important that they know and understand them from early on in life and that they make them a valuable part of their life. Start early teaching them to your child.

Why Do Christians Struggle Financially?

Many Christians believe in their hearts, souls and spirits that God is in charge, and can easily provide for them in their time of need. And yet, many Christians throughout the world struggle with financial issues. How is this possible?

One potential source of difficulty is a lack of financial understanding. For some, the basic principles of budgeting, investing, and even money in general were never learned. However, by admitting that they are lacking in this area, a Christian can easily and quickly gain the guidance that they need through prayer, studying of God’s Word and honest fellowship with other Christians.

Another potential cause of financial struggles occurs within a marriage. Often, a husband and wife will divide the financial duties between them; perhaps the husband is responsible for paying the utilities, while the wife is responsible for monthly food shopping.

When a married couple acts as two separate individuals in a financial sense, this can lead to potential problems. Instead, they should act as one, as a team in all aspects of their lives, especially the financial aspect. By communicating properly, and making joint decisions concerning monetary issues, many struggles stemming from poor planning and miscommunication can be avoided.

Another common reason why many Christians struggle financially is that they have a sense of timing that is different from God’s. Many Christians want to be able to enjoy the fruits of their labors quickly, within a few days, or months, instead of being patient and waiting for fulfillment and a time of proper harvesting. Because of this impatience, many Christians chose to borrow money, and become laden with debt. While debt itself cannot always be avoided, its power over you can be lessened by simply taking the time to ask yourself:

“Am I following God’s timetable? Or am I substituting my own?”

Thankfully, with a better understanding of God’s plan, and what can be done, financial obstacles can become a thing of the past.

How to Teach Your Child to Make Prayer a Priority

If you’ve ever started your day, begun it and realize that you haven’t spent time with your Heavenly Father, then you may have noticed how quickly your day may have gone downhill.

If you have made spending time with God first thing in the morning a habit in your life then you know the benefits to doing so. It truly can make a difference in your day. So, if it has been useful and valuable to you, then why not teach your child to do the same, so that they can experience the joy of spending time with God in the morning?

How do I make this a practice of my child’s life?

Well, one of the best ways to do so is to practice it with them. Make them a part of your “morning time with God”. You don’t have to spend all your quiet time with God with your child, but you can share with them what you are doing and how they too can do the same. Your example will go a long way to helping your child to see the value in this practice.

Make this time age appropriate. You don’t want to force too much on them too soon. What you would encourage a fifteen year old to do you wouldn’t encourage a five year old to do. You want to make it simple and easy to understand. Basically you want them to “Talk to God”, spend time in His word and reflect on His promises.

Purchase them their own Bible and possibly even a separate book or study that will make the Bible easier for them to read and understand. This will help to make this time easier for them.

Make this a matter of prayer. Pray that your child begins to understand and value their time with God and that they see the importance of making it the “start” to their day. As they begin to make it a habit they will begin to realize what it is truly doing for their lives. And will notice when they “miss” it.

Don’t give up! It may not be something that they immediately take onto or even make a practice, you may worry they will never be committed but give them time and they will see the benefits as well as the importance of this very important time in their day and need for their relationship with God.

What Does the Bible Say About Debt?

There are a number of verses in the Old and New Testament concerning debt, and one of the most noteworthy can be found in Paul’s Letter to the Romans.

Romans 13:8 states that:

“Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another”.

This clearly states that as a Christian, a person has the responsibility to live a financially stable life, save for the continued love of his God, and fellow man.

So is debt considered a sin in the eyes of God? In truth, there is nothing in the Bible that specifically calls it a sin. However, there are many cautions about debt becoming a source of conflict or problem. For example, it can become a problem if the source of the need is envy from a neighbor’s possessions or even greed.

According to 1 Timothy 6: 10:

For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

And Hebrews 13:5 states that:

Keep your lives free from love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.’

These two verses clearly indicate that the cause of debt is sometimes envy of the possessions of others, the love of wealth, and a lack of faith in that God will provide.

In addition, the Bible clearly indicates that all debts should be repaid.

According to Romans 13:7, the Christian should:

Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then, honor

Also, the Bible indicates that borrowing money should be a temporary state of affairs. For example, in Deuteronomy 15: 1, debts should be resolved or canceled, within seven years.

In summary, debt in and of itself is not a sin, however, the causes of it, and the reckless borrowing of money can lead to sinful actions, so the Christian should make every effort to live responsibly.

Teaching Your Child About Peer Pressure

Today’s youth have to deal with peer pressure just like every other generation that has gone before them. You may argue that today’s peer pressure is more intense or you may argue that it is the same as in your day, whatever the case it exists and needs to be dealt with. We must teach our children how to deal with peer pressure, how to avoid it, and how to face it.

Raising a child in a Christian home is important, equipping them to face a cruel, dark world is even more important. It is important that we not only help them to know Christ, but we help them to live as a Christian.

They must arm themselves with the armor of God so that they will be able to face what is before them.

The Bible gives us these tools, this armor that we can use against our enemy. Spending time with your children reading God’s word will help them to realize what it says and hide those words in their heart.

In addition, you can talk with them about how they should react to their peers. The art of turning the other cheek, the art of “treating others as you would like to be treated” rather than how they treat you. Though these things might not be popular, they are Biblical.

Remind them of the saying, “What is right is not always popular, what is popular is not always right.” Help them to understand that taking a stand for Christ is not always easy, but they will be rewarded by their Heavenly Father.

Finally, remind them that the best way to avoid temptation is to flee from it.

The Bible says in 2 Timothy 2:22:

“Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. “

This is the ultimate way to resist temptation and peer pressure, just run.

We must equip our children to know how to handle peer pressure. Give them the tools that they need, encourage them at every chance, the battle for their innocence is not easily won, but a worthy cause of battle.

What Does the Bible Say About Money?

The financial health of a Christian like any other person can be stable and good, or poor and unstable. If you find yourself searching for more stability and growth in your financial health, consider what the Bible has to say about money. There is a wealth of information found within the Bible, as well as a number of valuable lessons.

One valuable lesson taught concerning money in the bible is that a Christian cannot have two masters. He cannot be a servant of God, and be a slave to his worldly possessions and money.

Matthew 6:24 states that:

“No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.”

Another idea that many Christians lose sight of is the idea of being financially prepared. In fact, Proverbs 6:6-8 encourages the reader to:

“Go to the ant, O sluggard, observe her ways and be wise, which, having no chief, officer, or ruler, prepares her food in the summer and gathers her provision in the harvest.”

In addition, Proverbs 21:20 and 21: 5 state respectfully:

“In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil, but a foolish man devours all he has.”

“The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty, but those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty.”

In other words, by careful planning and management, along with God’s grace and guidance, your needs will be provided for, and your financial life will become stable and relatively worry free.

Another idea that is seen throughout the Bible concerning money is the obligation of the Christian to provide for others out of love and reverence for God.

As it clearly states in 1 Timothy 5:8:

“But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever”

In a very real sense, the Bible teaches that money should not be your master and it should not control you. Rather, it is a tool provided by God as a way to provide for your needs. As a Christian, you should have only one master and that is God.

Teaching Your Child About Creation

The best way to teach a child about most anything is to show them. Therefore the best way to teach a child about creation and nature is to expose them to it. Take them on a nature walk, point out the different things that God created and share with them the awesome story of creation.

You can then move on to the fact that God created us as humans, how many days it took him, the fact that God said that everything he had made was good and more. You can share each of the stories of Genesis with them in sequence helping them to understand what amazing things God did in such a short period of time.

Children understand a lot more than we normally believe that they can, therefore it is important to share with them the stories of creation early in life, they will gain so much from it and can even share that with others.

Repetition is important when teaching children as well, therefore ask them often about the things that they see on a daily basis and remind them of God’ role in our world. This is how you can also make God a part of their daily lives.

There are also a lot of great songs that you can teach your child about creation that can help them to understand what God did. Using songs is another great way to share things with your child. They can learn them easily and will recall them quickly.

You may also choose to use crafts or other projects to help teach your child about creation. Whatever you choose though they will surely learn much if you make an effort to teach them at all. Making it a daily part of your life and bringing up God in your conversations is a great place to start.

As Christians, and as moms I think this is a great question to really think about. I know for me I want to teach my kids about the love of Jesus. It is such a burden on my heart to teach them about Jesus, about salvation, and how to live a life that glorifies the Lord.

I also want to not necessarily teach this, but be there for other Christian Stay at Home Moms. I’ve recently been so inspired by the wonderful Titus 2 women that God has placed in my life, that I really want to do the same for others.

Teaching Your Child to Profess God’s Word

The Bible tells us his “word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” Psalm 119:105 (NIV) It truly is, but only if you allow it to be. We as parents must teach our children to make the scripture an important and valued part of their lives or otherwise it will not be.

Teaching your child to profess God’s Word, meaning to recall it and use it at the times that they need it most, can only be done if you are purposeful about teaching them God’s word.

You can do this in a variety of ways, including:

Having a daily Bible reading time for your family. A daily Bible reading time with your family can not only be a good way for your child to begin to know and love scripture, but can also help them to understand its significance and importance. They will realize because you make it an important part of your day that it is truly worth spending time in. Setting aside a specific time each day and staying committed to it will help your child to stay committed to reading the Bible as well, even into their futures.

Encouraging them to memorize Scripture. Whether you have them to memorize a verse a week or you enroll them in an organized group such as Bible Drill to help them to learn Scripture, either way you are helping them to “hide the words of God” in their hearts. This after all is what you are wanting them to do so that later on when they are faced with temptation or some other type of decision that they will be able to respond according to scripture.

Making sure that they attend Sunday School and other Bible study times. Coming together with other believers and studying the Bible gives them a chance to not only see that you and your family studying God’s word but others as well. They get the opportunity to learn from others and to learn from studying and reading the Scriptures for themselves.

All of these are perfect ways to help your child to learn God’s Word and in turn be able to profess God’s word when the time comes that they need to use it in their daily life. Without having the teachings from you in their past they will not be able to do so when the time comes that they need to rely on His word. This is why making it a priority for you and your family is important.

Dealing with a Non-Believer In Your Child’s Life

Raising a child in church, and to be a Christian can be difficult. But this becomes especially difficult when you have to deal with a non-believer in your child’s life. Whether it be a friend or a family member, having a non-believer question what you are raising your child to believe can be frustrating.

So, How do you deal with a non-believer in your child’s life? There are several things that you can do.

1. Be consistent. Being consistent will help your child to know that you are going to stand firm on your beliefs. Wavering will cause them to be unsure and question what you have taught them.

2. Refrain from anger. Yes, having someone question what you are teaching your child, or questioning your faith can be frustrating, but it should not bring you to anger. Displaying Christian love and kindness and follow the Golden Rule when dealing with them will be show evidence of your Christian walk and speak volumes to the non-believer.

“So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.”
Matthew 7 :22

3. Rest in the assurance of Proverbs 22:6, which says, “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” The Bible speaks of “childlike faith”. Fortunately, children understand faith in Christ and do not complicate it or easily allow others to sway them. This helps them to stand firm in their faith.

4. Be there to listen and answer questions. Many times, the unbeliever’s thoughts and questions will help a child to begin to explore their own feelings about their faith and about God, opening a door of opportunity for you to listen to your child and answer any questions that they might have regarding God and their faith.

5. Pray for the unbeliever and your child.
Prayer is a powerful tool that can be used in any situation. So, especially pray for your child as they deal with this person as well as for the unbeliever themselves. It could even be a good experience for you to pray with your child for that person in their life who does not believe in God. What a powerful way to exercise your faith in front of your child.

As you can see there is much you can do to help your child when dealing with an unbeliever in their life, allowing them to understand their faith more and to be able to defend it if needed.

Christian Movie Review: Date Night

Date night is a comedy based on a relationship between Phil (Carell) and Claire Foster (Fey.) Phil and Claire Foster live the average suburban life. They have two kids, and even though they have a pretty average, yet busy life, they still manage to go on a date once per week.

I will go out there and say that this movie is certainly laugh out loud funny. It is something that every married couple can relate to, letting your marriage get to the point where you feel as if it’s just repetitive and a bit mundane. You end up doing the things you know you are suppose to do, yet you want something a bit more.

At first when I started watching this movie I was VERY happy, it was funny, I could relate to some of the struggles Claire and Phil had as a married couple. And I was very pleased to see that there relationship was pretty healthy, they just need a bit of a spark to help put life back into their marriage.

Overall this movie made for a wonderful date night movie! In my opinion it was a PERFECT date night movie. I could deal with the slight sexual innuendos, that was fine. I could deal with the guy wearing no shirt, and I could even deal with the “f” bomb being dropped every once in a while.

However I had a HUGE problem with one of the very last scenes that involved some sort of strip club and prostitutes. In Claire and Phil’s endeavor they supposedly “need” to enter into this type of place to save their lives. Immediately when they entered this place my rating of this movie went WAY down. My husband and I still agree that the movie would have been great without this particular scene.

The scene is not too graphic, I have certainly seen worse. However it was a LONG scene, and the events that took place while they were there was borderline for making a PG-13 movie a rated R movie.

I would definitely keep younger kiddos away from this movie. I do not recommend this movie for anyone under the age of 18 years old.

I personally give this movie 2.5 out of 4 stars. Again it was very funny, and I LOVED the ending. The positive ideal of marriage portrayed in this movie was a welcome change to what is typically portrayed in Hollywood!

Raising Your Teen in Church

We all know that our teen years can be some of the toughest days of our lives. It is a time in our lives where temptation is strong. Therefore, being in church during this time in our lives is so important. Fellowship with other Christians, participation in regular Bible study and worship service attendance can help to form the Biblical foundation that your teen needs.

I know that encouraging a teen to stay in church can be difficult. The urge for them to stay home is strong after spending a late night out with their friends. However, if you encourage church attendance in your child as they are young, and continue this as they age then they are more likely to make it a priority in their own lives.

Encouragement is what should be done, never forcing. The Bible is clear on this when it says, “Train a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6

As teens become more and more involved in church, especially in groups such as youth group. They are able to form meaningful relationships with other Christians, both their age and with their leaders. These relationships are yet another thing that will keep them coming to church. They will also help them to learn how to act as a Christian should and will give them the additional support that they need.

Another thing that a teen can do with their involvement in church is to begin to serve. There are many areas in church that even a teen can be of service. Learning to serve is yet another duty of us as Christians and is something that can teach your teen so much and help them to grow in their faith. This growth will help them to grow as a person and as a Christian making them more committed.

As you encourage your child, and watch them get involved do you all you can to be involved as well. Them seeing your positive example and that you too are being proactive and involved will help them to stay committed and to stay involved as well. It will be something that you can look forward to doing together as a family and will keep your family unit strong. Church attendance is an important part of your lives as Christians and will prove to be truly beneficial as you go through the years of raising a teen.

How to Save a Christian Marriage

Christian marriage is a commitment. It is a lifelong commitment to each other and to God. All too often a Christian marriage can hit a rough spot. Sometimes those rough spots are so intense and frustrating the couple may ask if their marriage is worth it and may even consider dissolving the union. However desperate the situation may seem, all is not lost. There are many ways to save your marriage. These are just a few.

First and most importantly, open the lines of communication. Sit down with your spouse and in a non-argumentative tone talk things out. Talk about what is bothering you, what is bothering them and how the both of you may be able to make changes for the sake of each other. Honor each others feelings and thoughts and never attack or belittle each others opinions. If you communicate with each other honestly and openly you will be on the right track to saving your marriage.

Christian marriage has a foundation that is based on the love and belief in the Lord. Turn together to the Lord during this trying time. Whether that means holding hands and praying quietly and silently, praying together out loud, reading your Bible together, whatever it may take to turn towards Him.

He is waiting to hold you in His arms and guide you back to each other. Always have faith that the Lord is who brought you together, so He is the one entity that has the power to bring you back together. All you need to have is an open and faith filled heart.

Be open to seek Christian counseling as well. Most Christian churches are more than equipped to provide counseling for those members who need it. Do not feel embarrassed or ashamed as that counseling was put there to help. Call your church with your spouse and make an appointment to speak to someone for some extra help in getting your marriage put back on the right track.

It is important that you seek out Christian counseling only as you will want the person who is counseling you to share your beliefs and values, as it will make the process that much easier.

Though you believe your situation may be hopeless, remember that a Christian marriage can be saved. With some hard work and open heart and faith in the Lord you can return to a place in your marriage that you truly thought you would never get back.

How to Make Your Own Natural Egg Dyes

Natural egg dyes can be made from a variety of foods, flowers and plants. The dye is transferred to the egg either while boiling the eggs or, as with normal dyes, after the eggs have been hard-boiled. When boiling the dye with eggs, be aware you’ll be limited to the number of colors you can do at once by the number of eyes your stove has.

When dyeing the eggs while boiling, you place the coloring ingredients into the pan of water which covers the eggs. Include a teaspoon of vinegar for deeper colors. If you’d rather dye the eggs after they’ve been boiled, cover the eggs with water and a teaspoon of vinegar, and then add the dyeing ingredients. Allow the eggs to sit in the dye in the refrigerator until they are the desired color.

Here are various ingredients you can use to create the colors you want for your naturally dyed eggs:

 • Lavender – Violet blossoms plus 2 teaspoons lemon juice, Red Zinger tea, or a small amount of purple grape juice
 • Violet blue – Small amount of red onion skins placed in the water while boiling, violet blossoms, hibiscus tea, or red wine
 • Blue – Purple grape juice or canned blueberries added to the water and placed in the refrigerator, red cabbage leaves placed in the water while boiling
 • Green – Spinach leaves boiled with the eggs
 • Yellow – Any of these can be boiled with the eggs: orange or lemon peels, carrot tops, celery seed, ground cumin, or ground turmeric. To get the same color with the cold method, add green or chamomile tea to the water.
 • Orange – Boiled yellow onion skins; cooked carrots, chili powder, and paprika will result in the desired color in the cold method.
 • Brown – Black walnut shells boiled with the eggs, or you can add strong coffee, instant coffee, or black tea to water in the refrigerator.
 • Red – A large amount of red onion skins boiled with the eggs. Using the cold method, add canned cherries in their juice, pomegranate juice, or raspberries.
 • Pink – Use any of the following, added to water and placed in the refrigerator overnight: beets, cranberries or cranberry juice, raspberries, red grape juice, or the juice from pickled beets.

Remove the eggs from the water, place them in an egg carton, and let them dry. If you’d like your naturally dyed eggs to look shiny, you can rub vegetable oil into the egg shells. Perhaps, after learning how to make your own natural egg dyes, you won’t bother with the prepared dyes you can buy at the store.

Christian Marriage Counseling

A Christian marriage is a wonderful and sacred union between a man and a woman. Both participants are confident that the Lord brought them together and their marriage will be long lasting and successful.

Sometimes though, life gets in the way and they hit a period of rough times. Because of their true love and devotion for each other and the Lord, rather than throwing in the towel they decide to seek out Christian Marriage Counseling. It is wonderful that they have made the decision to seek help.

Exactly where does a Christian couple go to be counseled correctly?

One option and probably the most obvious would be to seek counseling from the great counselor, the Lord. Turn towards him during this tough time. Speak to him together, call out to him together, and cry with him together. He is more than aware of the difficulties you are experiencing and He is just waiting for you to ask him for help.

If you both open your hearts up to Him completely and pray that He will guide you closer to each other and to Him, He will do just that no questions asked. When two individuals who are already strongly faith based come together and ask the Lord for guidance and help, miracles have and will occur. Just makes sure that both of you truly believe that He is in control of the situation and has the power and the love to help you both.

Something else that you may want to consider to incorporate with the Lord’s love and counseling is to seek out Christian counseling as well. This is where you and your spouse can sit down with an unbiased third party that you can talk to and air out your differences. Please make sure you seek out Christian counseling and not just traditional counseling.

You may want to see if your church has a program in place (which many usually do) or ask a Christian friend or Pastor for advice. Reason being is that because your marriage is faith and devotion based it is important to have a counselor who understands the importance of the Lord in both of your lives and in your marriage as well. This will make all the difference.

A Christian Marriage is a lifelong commitment. During the rough times if the need to seek out counseling arises please obey. Whether it is through prayer counseling with the Lord or through a Christian counselor it can only strengthen your marriage and bring you, your spouse and the Lord closer together.

How to Make an Easter Tree

In recent years, you may have seen trees decorated with eggs outdoors at Easter time. Here’s how to make your own Easter tree to decorate your home.

Find Your Branch

You may not want to put an entire tree on your furniture, but you can create a smaller version of it. Start by finding a branch with several small limbs. You can either the leave the tree its natural color or you can spray-paint it. You can even go to a craft store and purchase branches to match your home decor.

Plant Your Tree

Find a planter or bucket where you can “plant” the tree. This can be spray-painted and then decorated if you like. Fill the planter or bucket with plenty of sand to be weighty enough that the tree won’t topple over. Push the branch down into the sand to secure it.

Poke silk flowers into the sand to hold them and then put Easter grass around the base so it looks like the tree is growing. If your child has small stuffed animals such as a lamb, chicks, or rabbits, they may want to place one or two of them at the base of the tree. Consider buying a small animal to place with the tree and then give it to your child as part of their Easter gift.

Decorate Your Tree

What types of ornaments could your children make? They could draw pictures associated with Easter on construction paper and cut them out to decorate the tree with. They could draw eggs and decorate the eggs using markers or stickers, lambs, crosses, lilies, birds, or anything else they might like to use.

You may want to have the children write out Bible verses and place them on the tree to help them remember the true meaning behind the Easter holiday.

Some families use the Easter tree to hang Easter candy rather than using a basket. Wrap string around the filled plastic eggs and then tie them to the branches. You can also tie a ribbon or yarn around chocolate eggs or bunnies.

Once you and your children learn how to make your own Easter tree you may decide it’s something you’d like to add as a family tradition. Each year you can make new ornaments to add to the tree. However you decide to use your Easter tree, enjoy the time you spend with your children making the tree this year.

How to Have a Successful Christian Marriage

A marriage that is based on Christian values has many elements that can help in dealing with some rough patches that all marriages experience along the way. By incorporating these values into the marriage, it can make a big difference in the success or failure of it. Many Christians know that without them they could not classify their marriage as successful.

The most common and most obvious would be the mutual love and admiration for the Lord. Both participants in the marriage have a strong love and devotion for God. This brings them together not only on a physical and emotional level but on a spiritual level as well.

They are both confident that the Lord will guide them through the rough times and celebrate with them during the good times. Together they spend time in prayer, in church and in sharing their devotion with others. This helps them grow stronger as a married couple as well.

Another important factor in a successful Christian marriage is that of forgiveness and trust. Each understand that the other is not perfect and will make mistakes. They know that perfection only lies in God, not in man. This allows them to look beyond each others faults and mistakes and have forgiveness for each other.

Though it may seem to be a difficult task at times, to have forgiveness for each other, each will be given the strength from God to make that possible. They will trust in each other that forgiveness is what the Lord wants them to do and they will become even closer as a married couple.

Finally and most importantly, a successful Christian marriage is one based on pure and faithful love for each other. A successful Christian marriage oozes pure love for one another. A kind of love that does not judge, does not falter, is simple yet powerful. A kind of love that many people think can only be found in romance novels is abounding in a successful Christian marriage.

Many marriages are successful. Many are not. Having your marriage based on a Christian foundation can increase the chances of it being successful and long lasting by leaps and bounds. Again, as we know marriage is not easy but incorporating Christian principles on a regular basis can make those difficult times become much easier.

Wow, you know I don’t read a whole lot anymore. Sad but true. Most of my time is spent reading the Bible, blogs, and homeschool curriculum. Oh and I do read books for my Bible Study group at Church, but other than that the last book I read was “The Shack” – which I liked, but not sure I can say it was my favorite book. I guess right now I would have to say my favorite book is the Bible, and I’m sure it will stay in that top spot forever, lol. But if I had to pick another book besides the Bible I would probably pick Love Life for Every Married Couple – it is truly one of the best books I have ever read on building a STRONG Christian marriage.

How to Make a Paper Plate Easter Bonnet

In days gone by it wasn’t unusual to see women dressed in their finest clothes and Easter bonnets on Easter morning. The habit of wearing hats has seemingly fallen out of vogue. Your child can still learn how to make a paper plate Easter bonnet as part of their Easter tradition.

To create a paper plate Easter bonnet, you’ll need to pull together a few craft items:

 • Paper plates
 • Ribbon or yarn
 • Scissors
 • Glue or glitter glue
 • Markers or crayons
 • Construction paper
 • Hole punch
 • Artificial flowers, if desired

There are a several methods to choose from when making an Easter Bonnet. Here’s one method that’s relatively easy so even young children can make them.

Begin by cutting the middle out of the plate so it will fit on the child’s head. There should be a considerable amount of plate left which is where the decorations will go.

Punch two holes in the plate, one across from the other. Be sure the holes are far enough into the plate so they don’t easily rip.

Let your child decorate what’s left of the plate however they want. They can make paper flowers and glue them onto their hat, or glue silk flowers. They can also color it with markers or crayons. Construction paper can also be cut into strips and curled to add to the brim of the hat. Let them have fun decorating it.

When the children have finished decorating their paper plate Easter bonnet, it’s ready for them to try on. Then they can tie two pieces of ribbon or yarn (about 10 inches long) into the holes, one on each side. Make a bow with the ribbon under their chin to hold the Easter bonnet on.

As you can see, it really isn’t difficult to make an Easter bonnet. You and your child can work together to create a new Easter bonnet each year. Make it a family tradition to enjoy with your child.

And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. Hebrews 6:11-12

When we learn to love God we begin to believe in God’s promises no matter what our circumstances may be.

The fact is that this world is full of bad circumstances. There are going to be many times where we need to trust that no matter what happens, God is good.

Honestly doing today’s study is difficult for me. I feel like I don’t really know what to say. Sure I know that God is good. I know that all things work toward the glory of God. I know as Christians we aren’t immune to sin, nor are we exempt from experiencing various trials.

There are so many things I don’t understand. I don’t know why some parents need to suffer the loss of a child. I don’t know why bad things are allowed to happen to good people. I don’t know why some couple’s can’t have children while others have several.

There are so many things I can’t explain. I can’t explain cancer, abuse, murder, or neglect. I’m sure there are explanations for all of these, but why some people have to endure these types of trials, and others don’t, I can’t explain this.

But through all of this I know God is good.

Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! Psalm 34:8(NKJV)

The LORD is good to all, And His tender mercies are over all His works. Psalm 145:9(NKJV)

I know that nothing done in His name is in vain.

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15:58(NKJV)

I know that we all can experience a happy ending if we just believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.

The LORD redeems the soul of His servants, And none of those who trust in Him shall be condemned. Psalm 34:22(NKJV)

I know that God will protect those who fear Him.

The angel of the LORD encamps all around those who fear Him, And delivers them. Psalm 34:7 (NKJV)

I know that when we seek His will, He will freely reveal it.

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. James 4:8 (NKJV)

I know that no matter what God is always there.

Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 (NKJV)

And the LORD, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed. Deuteronomy 31:8 (NKJV)

As I grow in my walk with the Lord, I cling to His promises more and more.

Loving God and believing in His promises doesn’t mean we will have all the answers to life’s difficult questions. It just means that we can be confident in who we are in Christ no matter what our circumstances may be.

Assignment:

What are some circumstances in your life that are keeping you from turning to God? – Seek prayer about these things.

Read Psalm 34 – List all that is promised to those who fear the Lord.

What Makes a Christian Marriage Strong?

When a Christian couple decides to take an important step into the sanctity of marriage they want their Christian Marriage to stay strong forever, but how does that actually happen? Anyone who is married knows that a good marriage takes work. There are many elements that can make your Christian Marriage continue to grow stronger each and every day.

One of the most important elements in a strong Christian Marriage is faith.
Have faith in yourself, faith in your spouse and most importantly faith in the Lord.

Honestly, all marriages will have their good times and their bad times but if you have faith that the Lord will guide you and keep you strong, that your spouse loves you with their whole heart and that you are worth it, your Christian Marriage will stay solid.

Another element that is key not only in a Christian Marriage but also in any marriage is the element of communication; you must be willing to keep an open heart. Too many times married couples tend to stop communicating. They stop sharing what makes them happy, what makes them sad, and what they would like to change.

Spend some time in prayer each day and ask the Lord to provide you with open communication with your spouse; it will make all the difference.

Something that may seem obvious but still needs to be addressed is love. When attempting to grow in a Christian marriage there must be an over abundance of love present. There must be an honest and pure love for each other and for God. Without this honest and pure love your marriage will unfortunately become stagnant.

Do not be afraid to show your love freely and without reservation and you will receive it back. Love is what a Christian marriage’s foundation relies on, don’t be afraid to give and be open enough to receive.

Lastly, a Christian marriage will not grow stronger without the mutual love of the Lord. Each day spend time together with your spouse and God. Whether that includes going to church together, reading your Bible together, or allocating a portion of each day to spend in prayer together, this is so important for the growth of a Christian marriage.

Make a conscious decision to incorporate each of these into your marriage on a daily basis and you and your spouse will be on the road to a long lasting love filled marriage with each other and the Lord.

Bible Study Love: Seek the Lord’s Will in Everything

The following devotional and Bible Study assignment was taken from our Online Christian Mom Bible Study Group. You can sign up to become a member of the CSAHM Club and gain access to our complete Bible Study on Love. Click here for more information on the Online Bible Study Group for Moms!

***

“…does not seek its own,” 1 Corinthians 13:5 (NKJV)

Often our lives are filled with many different emotions & idols. We think that God will follow us around rather than us follow Him. We desire Him to answer our prayers but we ignore His.

To love God is to seek His will in everything we do. Seeking God’s will is to simply do what is pleasing to God.

“I delight to do Your will, O my God, And Your law is within my heart.” Psalm 40:8 (NKJV)

Sometimes God’s will is not very apparent, nor is it an easy thing to do. How do we know what is pleasing to God?

There are three different ways we can seek the Lord’s will:

1. Pray – prayer in every situation is SO important. Even asking God for the guidance on what to do or what to say is essential in making sure you are walking the path God has set before you.

2. Read – How do we know if something is right or wrong if we don’t read the Bible? So much knowledge, guidance, and instruction are available within the pages of the Bible. I also like to think of the Bible as God’s prayer journal. The Bible is filled with God’s instruction and hope for the Body of Christ.

3. Seek Advice – seeking godly counsel is also very helpful to find out what the next step is in following the purpose God has for your life. The Bible is very clear about fellowship with other believers, this is why it’s a good idea to belong to a Church within your community.

When we learn to seek God’s will in our life then everything else is provided for us. I know it can certainly be difficult at times to do what is required in order to fulfill God’s will in our life, but the Lord has made many promises to us including this one:

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)

In this scripture Jesus is referring to the things we worry about, like money, food, and clothing, being added to us.

God’s will does not include what car we drive, or the label on our clothes. God’s will includes what we do with our time, how we treat those around us, especially during time of conflict. It includes how we spend our money, and getting rid of idols in our life that is holding us back from truly living a life that is pleasing to Him.

When we love God, we will seek His will in everything we do.

Assignment:

List 3 things you know God wants you to change in your life in order to make it more pleasing to Him. Seek out a mentor or accountability partner to help you change these habits.

Finding Time to Pray

People use all kind of excuses in order to not pray. Some of the most common excuses are:

 • I don’t know how to pray.
 • How do I know God is really listening?
 • I feel self-conscious when praying.
 • I just don’t have the time to pray!

Do any of these sound familiar to you?

Prayer plays a vital role in our relationship with the Heavenly Father. When we make excuses not to pray we are telling God He is not important to us.

One of the easiest excuses to fix is “I don’t have the time”. Prayers do not have to be long or time consuming. Keep in mind that prayer is not just a time to ask God for something, but also a time to praise and thank God for the things He has done in our lives. A prayer can be something as quick and simple as, “Thank you God for allowing me to miss that traffic accident on the highway”.

You don’t have to speak out loud to pray either. Remember God knows everything in our minds. Nothing is hidden from Him. It is easy to say a quick prayer while getting ready for the day, before meals, while driving, or even at the grocery store.

While the quick and simple prayers are great you still need to make sure to spend some quality time with the Lord in your prayer closet. A number of people do this before they go to bed or first thing in the morning. Set aside 10 minutes and do nothing but pour your heart out to God. Praise Him, thank Him, ask Him. If you have a prayer journal this is the time you want to bring it out.

Taking just 10 minutes out of your day to pray can make an astronomical difference in your life and in your relationship with God. By continually praying you will see your personal relationship with the Heavenly Father start to grow. Prayer can help take worries away, reduce stress, and give you peace. Having a regular prayer life with the Lord will change your life.

Craft: Soapmaking for Kids

Soap making is a fun and useful hobby. But making lye soap can be rather dangerous, so it’s not exactly suitable for children. However, that doesn’t mean that youngsters can’t get in on the soap making fun. There are other ways to make soap that are simpler and less hazardous. Here’s a recipe for glycerin soap that is appropriate for preschoolers and older.

What You Need

 • Glycerin soap (either bars or blocks)
 • Soap dye
 • Soap mold
 • Microwave safe container
 • Spoon
 • Knife

Instructions

 1. Cut a bar of glycerin soap into three pieces. If using blocks, cut two or three pre-measured pieces. (Only an adult should do this step.)
 2. Place the glycerin soap in the microwave safe container, and microwave for about 20 seconds or according to directions that came with soap blocks. Stir, and continue microwaving 10 seconds at a time until the soap is fully melted.
 3. Add soap dye. For pastel colors, use only a few drops. For darker colors, keep adding dye until the desired color is achieved.
 4. Pour the soap into the mold and set aside. Allow to harden for an hour.
 5. Once soap has hardened and cooled completely, pop it out of the mold. If it is stuck, place it in the freezer for a few minutes and try again.

Tips

 • Use caution when removing soap from the microwave, and stir carefully to eliminate air bubbles. Soap that is heated too long or unevenly can erupt out of the container, causing burns.
 • If you prefer, you can melt the soap in a double boiler over low to medium heat.
 • If you would like a scented soap, you can add a couple of drops of fragrance oil. Just make sure it’s safe for use on the skin, and remember that a little bit goes a long way.
 • Want a layered bar of soap? Add color to half of the melted soap, pour it into the mold, and let sit for about 5 minutes or until a “skin” forms on top. Then slowly pour the rest of the liquid soap (mixed with another color of soap dye if you like) on top.
 • You can make a swirled soap by waiting until you have poured the soap into the mold, adding drops of dye, and swirling with a toothpick.
 • To make a simple yet elegant soap on a rope, pour half of the liquid soap into the mold, let sit for 5 to 10 minutes, and place a strand of beads on top. Then pour the rest of the soap on top of the beads and let cool completely. This makes a wonderful gift!

How to Pray

People, especially new believers, often wonder if there is a wrong or right way to pray. While there is no wrong way to pray, the Bible does give us an outline we can follow to help in our prayer time found in Matthew 6:7-13 (King James Version).

“But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen [do]: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as [it is] in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”

Part of the above passage of scripture is also known as The Lord’s Prayer and most believers are familiar with it. It is the model prayer that the Lord gave and is also found in the book of Luke. The Lord’s Prayer actually starts at verse 9 in the book of Matthew, Chapter 9.

First Things first Address the Father:

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name,Matthew 6:9

We should start our prayers by addressing God as our Father because He is our spiritual Father. He has given us life. It also gives God the glory and respect He deserves. The word hallowed actually means, “reverenced as holy,” and by addressing God as our Father we are acknowledging His holiness.

Acknowledge That His Will Is Your Desire

“Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as [it is] in heaven,” Matthew 6:10

His kingdom and His will is the most important, not our wants or will. We often get sidetracked in our prayer life with asking the Lord for things that we want. The Bible encourages us to ask for everything we might want in James 4:2, “yet ye have not, because ye ask not,” but we have to realize that what we want may not be God’s will. Try praying for God’s will to be done and ask for God to reveal His will to you.

Pray for Daily Provisions

“Give us this day our daily bread,” Matthew 6:11

We should pray for food, water, shelter, clothing, etc. You must remember that God provides everything for us – every little thing! God provides the shoes on our feet and the food we eat. Not only should we pray for our daily provisions but we should also thank Him for providing them to us.

Forgiveness

“And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors,” Matthew 6:12

We are suppose to ask God for forgiveness of our sins, but that we should also offer forgiveness to those who have done us wrong.

Pray for Strength and Power that Only God Can Give You

“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.” Matthew 6:13

We need to ask God to not lead into temptation and also to help us resist and conquer temptation. God promises us in 1 Corinthians 10:13 to never give us a temptation we cannot resist and conquer. Finally we should end our prayers praising God, acknowledging that He alone is the King and holds all power and glory.

It is important to recognize that the Lord’s Prayer is not something we are suppose to repeat verse by verse. Of course, reciting scripture is always a good thing, but the Lord’s Prayer is meant as an outline of how we could construct our prayers. The important thing is to just to talk to God. Remember there is no wrong or right way to pray.

 3. On the pointed end, use the black marker to draw a nose and whiskers. Glue on two googly eyes.
 4. Cut two small circles out of the brown construction paper or felt. These will be the ears. Glue them into place about a third of the way back from the nose.
 5. If you like, use different sizes of walnut shells to create an entire mouse family.

The Importance of a Prayer Journal

While there is no wrong way to pray, having a prayer journal can make your prayer life a little easier.

A prayer journal does not have to be fancy. It can just be a plain notebook, composition pad, or a blank, hardback journal. All you need is a place to write notes and thoughts. It can be as complicated or simple as you want.

The purpose of a prayer journal is to record your prayer requests and praises. When you are writing down your requests, it is such a joy to be able to cross one off as having been answered. The prayer journal helps to give us physical proof that God does indeed answer prayers.

To begin just start writing down all your prayer requests in your prayer journal. You may have many or just a few; the number does not matter. Throughout the day, as you think of new prayer requests, add them to your journal. You can also take your prayer journal to church and write down the requests of other members. When you pray, all you have to do is pull out your prayer journal and your requests will be right there for you. No longer will you have to worry about forgetting a prayer request.

It is also very beneficial to record all the praises you have for the Lord. It is important for us to thank the Lord for providing for us and meeting certain needs. By writing down praises and making note of when a prayer request is answered you will see just how powerful prayer is and how God is moving in your life.

Along with keeping track of prayer requests and answered prayers, it can also assist in keeping our minds focused while we pray. Prayer journals can change the way your pray for the better. While keeping a prayer journal is not something you have to do in order to have a successful prayer life, it something you can look at down the road and see proof that yes, God does answer prayers.

Craft: Winter Sun Catcher

Winter is most often associated with cold weather and snow. But even though it’s chilly outside, the sun still shines beautifully on some days. This frozen sun catcher takes advantage of both the sub-freezing temperatures and the sunshine to add beauty to your porch or lawn.

What You Need

 • Water
 • Food coloring in a color of your choice
 • Shallow disposable aluminum pan (pie pans work nicely)
 • Round orange slices
 • Dried flowers
 • Pressed pine needles
 • Small pine cones
 • Cranberries
 • Sturdy twine
 • Scissors

Instructions

 1. Run enough water into a pitcher or bowl to fill the aluminum pan. Add food coloring until the desired color is achieved.
 2. Pour colored water into the pan until it is about a quarter of an inch deep. Keep the rest of the water for later use. Place the pan in the freezer or outside overnight so that it freezes solid.
 3. Cut two pieces of twine, each about a foot long. Place the end of one piece about halfway down one side of the ice, and run it along the side up to the top, leaving the remainder outside of the pan. Do the same on the other side with the other piece of twine.
 4. Arrange the orange slices, flowers, pine needles, pine cones and cranberries on the surface of the ice. When you have arranged them to your liking, slowly pour another quarter inch of the colored water into the pan. The pieces might move around a bit when you pour the water in, but if you pour the water slowly, they shouldn’t move too much.
 5. Place the pan back in the freezer or outside overnight so that the new layer of water will freeze into ice, locking your design in place.
 6. Sit the sun catcher out in your home at room temperature until you can easily remove it from the mold. Or if you prefer, run warm water over the back of the pan until the sun catcher is released.
 7. Find a nice spot outside, and tie the pieces of twine together to hang your sun catcher!

Tips

 • For best results, use a light color of food coloring. Darker colors could soak into the orange slices and change their color.
 • Keep in mind that the sun catcher will eventually melt. Consider putting it in a spot where it will be in the shade for at least part of the day to keep it looking good longer.
 • If it’s nice and cold outside, consider doing the entire project on the porch or patio. That way you won’t have to move it after adding the decorations and the water, and the items won’t shift around as much.

Why You Should Pray

Prayer plays an important role in one’s relationship with the Heavenly Father. The Bibles instructs in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 to “pray without ceasing.” Having a healthy prayer life can be the most satisfying aspect of a your life. Pray is not one-sided, it is not only for God, but is beneficial for us as well.

One benefit of prayer is a stronger relationship with the Heavenly Father.
In order to have a healthy relationship, with anyone, including God, you have to communicate. When praying to the Lord we are able to communicate our worries, our needs, and our praises. Even though God already knows these things, it is very therapeutic of us to say it out loud.

Prayer is very therapeutic. Prayer can encourage us and get us through difficult times. When we pray we are surrendering our burdens to God. The burdens are no longer ours to carry alone. Having God’s promise to supply our every need, we have no reason to worry (Philippians 4:19).

Luke 11:9 tells us “…Ask, and it shall be given you; …” (King James Version). An additional benefit to prayer is the ability to ask God for our heart’s desires. There are times we do not have items we would like to have because we have not asked God for them. Of course our prayers should not entirely be filled with our wants, but we do need to let God know of our desires and needs. If anyone can bring us contentment with our desires, it is God.

The above are just a few of the benefits that a healthy prayer life can provide. The fact that we were given the ability to communicate with the Heavenly Father is a privilege that should not be ignored. Prayer is the most powerful tool you could have ever in your life.

Bible Study Love: Patience With God

***

“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” James 1:2-4 (NKJV

Why didn’t God make everything in one day? Why did it take 7 days to create the heavens and the earth, animals, plants, and man? He could have created everything all at once, but He didn’t. Why?

“The servant therefore fell down before Him, saying, ‘Master, have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’ ” Matthew 18:26 (NKJV)

What if God weren’t a patient God? How many of us would be saved? Where would we be without God’s salvation?

“But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.” Luke 8:15 (NKJV)

Being patient with God is a difficult task, simply because it requires trust. Trust that God is who He says He is and will do the things He promises to do. It also requires faith. Faith that your prayers will be answered, and your trust in God will bear fruit in your life!

With patience we need to have faith, and trust the things we cannot see.

“By your patience posses your souls.” Luke 21:19 (NKJV)

Definition of posses: To cause to be influenced or controlled, as by an idea or emotion.

Our first reaction to everything should be patience. Sometimes we need to just stop and think before we speak or act.

“For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus,” Romans 15:4-5 (NKJV)

Most of us, myself included, don’t really grasp that taking your time to move through this life is really what needs to be done. To often we cry out to the Lord, begging Him to “do something” right now, when in all reality solving the problem immediately may not be the answer.

It took God 7 days to create the earth and everything that lives in the earth. He knows that life takes time, and we are here according to His time frame, and according to His purpose.

So much learning is achieved in those difficult times. Lest we forget this life is not about our wants and desires. The Lord has a plan and a purpose for each and every one of us that was so important to Him, God was willing to sacrifice His son in order to fulfill that purpose, to fulfill His plan!

We will never receive all that God has created for us if we lose our patience with Him. Yes, it takes trust and faith, but God is faithful. He is trustworthy. Becoming all that He created us to be is counting on our patience with Him.

God doesn’t ask of us anything He himself hasn’t already provided. God is patient with us. He has been patient since the beginning of time!

“My brethren, take the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, as an example of suffering and patience.” James 5:10 (NKJV)

Assignment:

Read Hebrews 6:11-12. What does God call us to do through our trials? How long are we to do this?

Socialization + Homeschooling

It’s amazing that one of the biggest concerns that people tend to have with homeschoolers is the socialization issue. The questions of interaction with other children and activities are the ones that always arise and are simply taken out of proportion. A homeschooler need not worry about socialization skills because those are learned on a daily basis. The main concern should be the quality of the education and not how the child will socialize.

Actually a homeschooler will have more time to socialize than a child that attends a traditional school setting. In all honesty, parents closely monitor the type of socialization that a homeschooler gets, unlike when they are in a traditional school setting. In a public school or private school setting, there are bullies, unstable individuals and teachers you would not want your child socializing with. It is unfortunate that children in a traditional school environment have to be subjected to the negative type of socialization such as bad behavior, rumors and bullying, to name a few.

There is also a misconception that a child should be subjected to the regular, negative, social interaction often seen in public schools in order to learn how to handle conflict. However, like I said, this is just a misconception. Most children who are home educated usually learn HEALTHY ways to resolve conflict. Being bullied is not a means of learning conflict resolution, instead it is a means to cause insecurity and a lack of self confidence.

Homeschooled children have the opportunity to get involved in after school activities such Boy and Girl Scouts, 4H Clubs, and many church activities. There is no shortage of opportunities to interact with children their own age. Children also have the opportunity to get involved in team sports such as soccer, baseball, and cheerleading, which will increase their ability to interact with many other children.

There are also homeschool groups where children will interact with other homeschooled children. Parents have the opportunity to plan group activities with other homeschooled families, such as field trips, meet and great activities and community service projects. As the children get to know each other, the parents get a well deserved break as well and an opportunity to socialize themselves.

The notion that homeschooled children have no socialization skills is far from the truth. Homeschooled children do not spend every waking hour at home; they are involved in many activities that involved children their age. Finding friends is not and should not be a concern for them.

Prayer – What Does it Mean?

For some, prayer has become an afterthought. It is something done while sitting in a church pew, or around a child’s bed before sleep. Or sometimes a prayer is offered to the cosmos as a wish or a heartfelt desire. However, the act of praying is a vibrant, dynamic, and transformative one, and should become an integral part of your life.

When you are in communion with God through prayer, you allow the connection between the Word, the Holy Spirit, and yourself to become stronger and deeper, and allow the seeds of faith to be firmly planted within yourself.

This conversation with God begins with you opening your mind to what God has to say, both in a still small voice, and within the Bible. In addition to supplication, and bringing your requests and praises to the presence of God, prayer is also about being able to listen to the voice of God.

Sometimes a response is easy to determine, and sometimes our ability to hear God is hampered by the many other voices that we hear throughout our daily lives. Praying in a reverent and devoted manner is one of the best ways to allow us to focus solely on the word of God, and what he is saying to us.

Throughout the Bible, the act of praying is not seen as something done without thought, or as an obligation. There are numerous examples of prophets, disciples, and even Jesus praying to God in a sincere, alert manner. In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus implored Peter to “watch and pray” with him, extolling him to be alert and watchful. In the letters of Paul, there are many examples of his encouraging words, telling his fellow Christians to pray in reverent and focused manner.

When a person prays, it is not for the betterment of God. God knew from the start all the potential within you, and it is through prayer, that you can unlock His Grace, and the potential to transform yourself into the true Christian that you were meant to be.

How to Choose Matching Colors for Your Quilt

A well-made quilt is a thing of beauty. When the colors are right and the sewing is done properly, the result is comparable to a work of fine art. This is one reason why handmade quilts make such wonderful gifts.

Those who have never quilted often assume that all it takes is sewing skill. And sewing skill is a very important factor. But equally important is the ability to choose the right colors. Quilters often choose two or more colors of fabric that look good together, only to find out that they do not match very well halfway through the project. Doing all of that work for nothing is enough to make one feel like giving up quilting forever, or to make only solid-colored quilts.

But matching up colors doesn’t have to be a stumbling block. You can use a color wheel to determine which colors go with each other. If you’re making a two-color quilt, it’s really simple: just choose one color, and look directly across from it on the color wheel to find its complementary color.

For three-color quilts, you’ll need to find the triad, which means you choose three colors that are evenly spaced from one another. The three primary colors, red, yellow and blue, form a triad. When using four colors, look for a tetrad, which is two complementary colors and two colors evenly spaced from one of the complementary colors.

Another way that some quilters match colors is by using those color strips you find where paint is sold. They contain several colors that all co-ordinate with one another. And best of all, you can grab the ones that interest you and take them along when shopping for fabric.

Choosing the Best Color for a Given Purpose

When selecting the colors for a quilt, it is important to consider where it will be used to ensure that it will not clash with its surroundings. If you’re using it in your home, pick a color from the walls, flooring or décor of the room where you intend to use it and go from there. If you’re making it for someone else, visit their home or ask them what colors they use in the room where it will be displayed.

If you’re making someone a quilt as a gift and want it to be a surprise, choosing a color can be trickier. Unless you can visit their home or ask someone else what colors they decorate with, you won’t know what colors will be surrounding it. In such a case, you could simply use the recipient’s favorite color. Light, neutral colors also work well in such a situation.

Choosing the right colors can make the difference between a beautiful quilt and one that ends up in the scrap heap. But there’s no need to guess at it. By choosing a good base color and using readily available tools to find co-ordinating colors, you can get it right each and every time.

The Christian Homeschooler

There are many different programs and curriculum’s you can incorporate into your home school environment. Many will choose books while others will choose online resources and some will incorporate both online resources and textbooks. The Christian homeschooler’s main component and focus is based on their spiritual beliefs and traditions.

The Christian homeschooler is at ease when teaching their children about their faith. The freedom to teach and practice your religion is one of the main reasons Christians choose to home school their children.

The Christian home school environment is one that involves the entire family. One parent is not teaching the children; instead it is accomplished together keeping the family unit intact. This type of homeschooler abides by the required course studies as well as incorporating Bible studies for a well-rounded student. The children are taught respect, responsibility and love for life as well as social and community issues from a Biblical perspective.

Many parents will choose this route because although the public school system will explore many different religions, these parents feel that they would rather study in depth their own religion. This is not to insult other religions, but to emphasize the importance of their personal beliefs to their children. Also, some Christian curriculum’s DO explore other religions, however it is always from a Christian Biblical perspective. It is wise to also point out that a Christian homeschooler is not drilled on the Bible all day. Their religious beliefs are given a place of importance that can’t be attained in the public school system.

Embroidery Quilting Explained

Quilting is a hobby that many crafters enjoy. They create beautiful quilts for themselves, their friends and their family members. Some sell their work, making extra money or even a full-time income.

Embroidery is another beloved craft. It involves stitching elaborate designs into fabric. Embroidery is used in rugs, clothing, home décor and much more.

Some quilters make their quilts unique by doing embroidery on them. They may use embroidery techniques to personalize the quilt with the recipient or quilter’s name, add a special message, or create a beautiful design. It can be a time-consuming process if you do it by hand, but the finished product makes it all worthwhile. If you do the sewing, the embroidery, or both by machine, it won’t take too long.

The first step in embroidering a quilt is to determine where you want the embroidery to show up. If you only want it to show up on one side of the finished product, you’ll need to do the embroidery before you put the quilt together. If you want it to appear on both sides, you’ll have to do it after the layers are sewn together.

Next, you need to choose your design and create a template. If you are just embroidering a name or other words, you can simply write them on the fabric by hand with a disappearing fabric marker. If you are embroidering a picture, you can trace it onto the fabric if it’s thin and light colored. Otherwise you will have to trace it onto a clear plastic sheet, cut out the lines with a craft knife, and trace the design onto the fabric.

When you’ve marked the words or design onto the fabric, it’s time to figure out which stitches you will use. For simple writing, a small chain stitch is simple yet elegant. Other stitches you may use include the stem stitch, whipped stem stitch, running, threaded running or whipped running stitch, and the regular, threaded or crossed backstitch.

If you’re embroidering by hand, you’ll need to put the fabric into an embroidery hoop to keep it pulled tight. You could also use an embroidery machine or a sewing machine that features embroidery patterns. Depending on the machine and the pattern, you may have to do nothing more than press a button to create a lovely design. Keep in mind, however, that most delicate fabrics should not be embroidered by machine.

Quilting and embroidery make a lovely combination. You can combine the two crafts to create beautiful and unique quilts for yourself, to give as gifts to friends and family members, or to sell at a profit. Even beginners can create embroidered quilts using simple stitches or an embroidery machine. So why not give this enjoyable hobby a try?

A Firm Foundation

When the decision is made to home educate your children, the very first step is to determine how to lay a firm foundation. This foundation is what everything else will build upon, so it is important to be sure it is a firm one. This firm foundation is one that is taught from the moment they can understand us.

Respect is taught from day one and is part of the training.

“Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6

The bible verse above is a very powerful one and for homeschoolers. They believe it is meant to teach your child at home. It is believed that the Lord is directing us as parents to train our children in the ways of the Lord. As mentioned above the training begins from the moment of birth and continues until your children will begin their own journeys through life.

As parents we are always learning and praying to the Lord that He will guide us and help us face daily decisions and choices. The way we live our lives and the choices we make are the models that our children will learn from. Not all is learned from books but most often the important values are learned by example and actions.

As parents we are responsible for the upbringing of our children, which is why so many decided to take on the responsibility of homeschooling. For many it is what they believe is the best route for their children to learn. They will be taught the subjects at the time you as the parent will find are appropriate. The lessons they learn are those that are similar to the ones we ourselves are learning in our own attempts to obey the Lord. We are responsible for our own actions before the Lord.

Training our children to be responsible for their actions and to keep their eyes focused on the walk with God is a great lesson to be taught. It is important to teach our children to be obedient, to respect authority, and to do all to the glory of God and not men as well as to stay focused on what is pleasing to God. When you have done this, you have set the foundational issues that will stay with them forever.

How to Make Easy Patchwork Pillows

Quilters often use patchwork in their creations. It’s a great way to use up fabric scraps, and it creates a truly unique design. But quilts aren’t the only things you can make using the patchwork technique.

Patchwork pillows add lots of charm to the rooms in which they reside. They can spruce up a nondescript couch in short order, and they are absolutely adorable on beds. And best of all, you don’t have to be a seasoned quilting pro to make them. Since they’re small, there is less room for error.

To make a patchwork pillow, you’ll need at least two different but coordinating patterns of fabric. The fabric should be of similar weight and texture. It’s possible to make two vastly different fabrics work, but if you have never done patchwork before, it’s much easier to stick with similar ones.

You’ll also need some nice, strong thread. If the thread you use is too thin, it is likely to break. But don’t go for the thickest variety you can find, either. If you do, the finished product won’t look right. Your best bet is somewhere in between those two extremes.

Before you get started, you’ll need to plan what you want your pillow to look like. An easy pattern for beginners is the nine-patch. This simply consists of three rows of three blocks each. For a 12-inch square pillow, you would need four 4-inch squares of one fabric and five 4-inch squares of the other. Measure carefully, and be sure to use sharp, sturdy scissors for a clean cut.

Once you’ve cut out all of your squares, it’s time to start sewing. Start with one square of each pattern. Place the right sides together, and sew the squares together along one edge with a 1/4-inch seam. Then get another square of the fabric you cut five pieces of, and sew it to the other edge of the contrasting fabric in the same manner. When you’re done, you’ll have a row of squares in an A-B-A pattern.

Create another row just like the first one. Then do another row with the pattern reversed (B-A-B). Then place the last row you created on top of one of the others, right sides together. Sew along the length with a ¼-inch seam. Place the remaining row on top of the B-A-B row with the right sides together, and sew the same way. When complete, you’ll have a checkerboard pattern.

You can use one of the fabrics used in the patchwork to make the backing, or use a co-ordinating solid fabric. Cut a piece the same size as the patchwork, and place the pieces with the right sides together. Sew a seam all the way around, leaving an opening 2 or 3 inches wide. Now all you have to do is turn the pillow right side out, stuff the pillow with fiberfill and sew up the opening.

Patchwork pillows are fun and easy to make. They also make wonderful and inexpensive gifts. They’re great practice for those who would eventually like to try quilting, as well. So don’t be afraid. Give it a try!

Are You Qualified to Homeschool Your Child?

Making the decision to home school your child is not one to be taken lightly. If your child has experienced the school system, it may be a difficult transition but one that is still achievable. Remember that the role of educating the child has always been the parent’s responsibility so you are qualified to home school your child.

Many believe that in order to educate your child a degree is necessary but that is not true. The only requirement is patience and love for your child. With love and patience all else follows and the learning process will be a smooth path. As a parent, you know the abilities your child has and can develop a curriculum designed for their unique needs. This in essence is perfect for your child instead of the cookie-cutter curriculum offered in the school system.

If you are considering homeschooling your child you will want to be familiar with the requirements within your state. Each state has different requirements such as having a licensed teacher evaluate your child at the end of the year as well as yearly scholastic aptitude testing. Some may simply require a portfolio of what your child has accomplished throughout the year. All the legal and state qualifications can be found online or by contacting the school system in your area.

It is important to prepare your paperwork and choose a curriculum that will fit your family. You can either design your own curriculum or purchase a curriculum package. There are packages that are set up by grade, as well as Christian and secular based. A Christian curriculum will include Bible studies as part of the curriculum and have a faith-based curriculum as a whole. Many of the packages will also include grading services such as items needed for record keeping, report cards and other services.

Simply put, YOU ARE qualified to home school your child. Persistent parents who care for their children are not intimidated by rules and regulations. The education and safety of your child far exceeds the frustration that may be encountered.

The Homeschool Decision

When you have children one of the decisions you must make is the one regarding education. Many do not realize that the decision is ultimately theirs if they choose to send their child to a traditional school setting or a home school setting. But, all in all there is a large group that is choosing to home school their children. The parents who make this choice make it based on their family situations, belief systems or perhaps for economic reasons.

When making this very important decision you must determine what will work best for you the parent, and the child. Sitting down with your family and making this decision is a must as well as praying over the decision as a family unit. Involving the family will make the homeschooling environment a more pleasant one.

Once the family is all in agreement then you can enter the world of homeschooling. It is a great and adventurous one and can be as simple or as difficult as you choose. It is important to remember to make learning fun and all else will follow. Choosing the correct curriculum that will suit your beliefs and your children’s understanding is also very important. There are many sources to obtain Christian based curriculum that will teach your child the needed courses from a biblical perspective.

It is wise to tailor your home school environment to one that will be pleasing to the entire family. Scheduling, courses, activities and projects should be researched to determine if they would fit your Christian based curriculum. Too often, one parent will make all the decisions, which is not only stressful but also unfair for the parent and the family.

A family that is faithful and learns together is one that will be happy and successful in their homeschooling adventure. Remember that you are never alone and relying on your faith will take you a long way.

What Is a Patchwork Quilt?

As a technique, quilting is believed to go back as far as the Crusades. It may also have been practiced in ancient Egypt. Today, quilting is a favorite pastime of many crafters. It is sometimes done on clothing, but more often the technique is used to make warm and beautiful quilts.

The patchwork quilt is one of the most popular types. Originally conceived as a way to utilize left-over fabric, creating patchwork quilts was a favorite pastime of women in early America. The quilts they created held great sentimental value. They were often given as wedding gifts, and owners often mentioned them in their wills.

The Amish were pioneers in patchwork quilting. They developed intricate geometric designs, as well as many floral and heart motifs. They often held quilting bees for the purpose of socializing and rewarding skilled quilters.

How Are Patchwork Quilts Created?

The patchwork quilt is formed by quilting three layers together: the patchwork pattern, batting, and backing. The stitching may be done by hand or machine, and it can outline the patchwork or be a totally different design.

The most basic element of a patchwork quilt is the block. The blocks are defined by the number of patches they contain. The most commonly used design is the four-patch, which contains two rows of two squares each. Each patch may be subdivided, but the four-patch structure is still easy to recognize.

Nine-patch quilts are also common. In them, each square contains three rows of three patches each. A sub-type of the nine-patch quilt is the double nine-patch. In it, the patches in the center and corners of the square are replaced with smaller nine-patch units.

Five- and seven- patch quilts consist of five rows of five patches and seven rows of seven patches, respectively. In these designs, the patches are not usually subdivided. There is also a one-patch quilt, which is made with one repeating shape.

Patches for the quilt are cut with a rotary cutter. In a four-patch quilt, two squares are sewn together along one edge, with the right sides together. Two other squares are sewn together in the same manner, and the two pairs are then sewn to each other. This creates one block. This process is repeated until enough blocks are created for the quilt, and then they are all sewn together. Batting and backing are added, and the three layers are sewn together.

Sewing patchwork quilts takes some practice. They are not the best type of quilt for beginners, because there is so much room for error. If one block is uneven, it affects the whole quilt. So if you’re just getting started in quilting, a simpler design will allow you to learn the basics before attempting a patchwork quilt.

The Greatest Gift of All Is Jesus

With all the busyness of the holiday season and its emphasis on gift giving and gift buying, it’s all too easy to forget that Jesus is the greatest gift from the Father. James 1:17 says “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights.”

Jesus is the long awaited Savior, who was prophesied to come in the book of Genesis, when God told the serpent that He would put enmity between it and the seed of the woman. While the serpent would strike His heel (by His crucifixion) ultimately Jesus would crush his head (when He was resurrected).

Because of Jesus’ death and resurrection…

 • We are children of God.
 • He calls us His friends.
 • We have been justified.
 • We have been bought with a price and belong to God.
 • We are members of the Body of Christ.
 • We are chosen by God and adopted as His children.
 • We have been redeemed and forgiven of all our sins.
 • We are overcomers.
 • We receive eternal life!

Knowing these truths should cause us to rejoice no matter what the circumstances of the holiday may hold. The expectations of a perfect holiday can be overwhelming to fulfill. In a fallen world, no Christmas will ever be perfect. Until Jesus returns, there will be struggles with finances, sicknesses and death.

Let’s give thanks to our Lord and Savior for His incomprehensible gift of redemption. We can honor him throughout the year by loving each other, reaching out to the poor in spirit in His name, and remembering His death.

I hope you all have a very Merry CHRISTmas and enjoy your time with your family! God Bless you!

How to Create a Winter Splatter Painting

Painting is a great way for kids to express themselves. And just like many of the other activities they enjoy it can be quite messy! Splatter painting is especially messy, but it creates a very interesting effect.

Splatter painting works very well for winter scenes. When you do the splattering with white paint, it looks just like falling snow. Here’s how you and your child can create a winter splatter paint masterpiece.

What You Need

 • Construction paper in a variety of colors
 • Scissors
 • Glue
 • Paint in white and other colors
 • Bowl
 • Toothbrush
 • Silver glitter
 • Newspapers
 • Easel
 • Smock

Instructions

1. Using construction paper in black or another dark color for the background, create an outdoor winter scene. A simple village looks nice, or you could create a Christmas scene with Santa and his reindeer. You could cut shapes out of other pieces of construction paper and glue them on, use paint to create a scene, or do a combination of both. If using paint, let dry completely.

2. Since this craft is so messy, it’s best to do it outdoors. If attempting it indoors, make sure to cover the work area thoroughly with newspapers. And dress children in old clothes and/or a smock.

3. Hang the picture on the easel with some newspaper behind it. (If you don’t have an easel, tape some newspaper onto a wall and tape the picture onto it.) Pour some white paint into the bowl, and add a little water if necessary to thin it out to a “splatterable” consistency.

4. Dip the toothbrush into the paint, and sling it onto the picture to make snow. Use as little or as much paint as you like.

5. If you want to add some sparkle to your painting, sprinkle a small amount of sliver glitter onto it while the paint is still wet. Shake off the excess over a pie pan. (Keep in mind that the paint will not hold as much glitter as glue would.) Let dry and hang up for all to see and enjoy.

Tips

For best results, do a test splatter before splattering paint onto your picture. To do this, simply hang up a blank piece of dark construction paper and splatter the paint onto it. If the paint runs, it is too thin. If it’s hard to splatter, add a little bit of water and try again. Keep working with it until it’s just the right consistency.

If you’re making your scene out of construction paper cutouts and don’t want them to have “snow” on them, glue on only the background items before you do the splatter painting. Let dry, and then glue on the figures in the foreground.

Three Wise Men

“Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem” (Matthew 2:1)

Who were the Wise Men?

The Wise Men of Christmas are called “magi” in Latin, from the Greek word “magoi.”. The words “magic” and “magician” come from the root magoi. They had great knowledge of astronomy and astrology.

The Magi served as priests, astrologers, interpreters of dreams and advisers to kings.  Wise Men are mentioned in the Bible is in the books of Jeremiah, Daniel and Matthew.

In Daniel 5:11, Daniel was appointed ruler over the Magi when he was able to interpret dreams that the Wise Men could not.

“Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, ‘The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, reveal unto the king. There is a man in your kingdom who has the spirit of the holy gods in him. In the time of your father he was found to have insight and intelligence and wisdom like that of the gods. King Nebuchadnezzar your father–your father the king, I say–appointed him chief of the magicians, enchanters, astrologers and diviners.”

The gifts they presented were significant:

 • Gold is precious and fit for a King.
 • Frankincense is an incense and represents His Priesthood.
 • Myrrh was used as an embalming ointment and was one of the spices used when Jesus was buried (John 19:39)

It is amazing to consider God’s design and planning in history. Because of the influence of the prophet Daniel, the Magi would have been familiar with Messianic prophecy and thus were expecting the arrival of the Messiah.

Interest in sorcery and astrology continues into our day.

What does God say about that?

“Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft,  or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead.” (Deuteronomy 18:10)

Where can we find real wisdom?

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.” (Proverbs 9:10)

How to Make a Wooden Spoon Angel

Angels are one of the most beautiful symbols of Christmas. Crafters often incorporate them into their projects for the holidays. Here is an angel project that is just adorable, yet it’s so easy that even a child can do it with a little help from an adult.

What You Need

 • Wooden spoon
 • Pink or flesh-toned acrylic paint
 • Red and black acrylic paint
 • Paintbrush
 • Liner brush
 • White and pink or flesh-toned felt
 • Yellow, brown or black yarn
 • Googly eyes
 • Gold card stock
 • Gold chenille stem
 • Pink pen
 • Glue

Instructions

1. Paint the bowl end of the spoon with the pink or flesh-toned paint. Let dry completely.

2. Cut a quarter circle out of the white felt. Place the spoon on top of it, with the bowl end up over the center point of the felt. Roll the felt into a cone around the spoon. Secure the edge to the rest of the felt with glue, and add glue around the neck to keep the dress in place.

3. Cut two long, narrow rectangles out of the white foam for arms, and two hand shapes from the pink or flesh-toned foam. Glue a hand to one end of each arm, and glue an arm to each side of the body.

4. Cut the yarn to the desired length of the hair. Glue into place.

5. Form the gold chenille stem into a circle to make a halo, leaving the ends straight and about a half inch in length. Twist the ends together, and glue to the back of the angel’s head.

6. Cut two wings from the gold card stock. Glue them in place on the angel’s back.

7. Glue on the googly eyes, and use the liner brush and black paint to add the outline of a nose. Use the red paint to paint on a mouth.

Tips

White craft glue will be easiest to use to glue on the googly eyes, but hot glue may hold the rest of the angel together better. If a small child is making this project, an adult should use the glue gun.

If you prefer, you could use doll hair instead of yarn. Just hot glue it on as desired.

If you like, you could add detail to the wings using gold glitter glue. You may also choose to use the glitter glue to add designs to the dress.

This project makes a nice Christmas tree topper. If you want to use it for this purpose, cut the handle of the spoon to just a few inches long so that it will sit on top of the tree.

If you leave the handle intact, this angel also makes a great puppet!

Bible Study: No Room In the Inn

“and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.” Luke 2:7

Experiencing the pangs of childbirth gives many women a new identification with Mary. In our Western culture we have everything planned out, sometimes even the actual delivery date for an elective c-section!

We identify with the pain she was experiencing and weep with her as she experienced her labor which was probably spent riding around on an animal looking for a place where she could safely deliver her Son.

We deliver our babies in hospitals, birthing centers or our homes, all of which have been carefully prepared and cleaned in anticipation of the impending arrival.

Mary delivered her Son, the Savior of the World in the most humble of circumstances, an animal stable. There was no royal palace or designer linens and probably no midwives or other medical personnel.

This lowly place of his birth should cause us to think about the value that God places on humility.  God despises the proud, but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6)

Some questions to ask yourself this Christmas season:

 • Are you leaving room “at the inn” of your heart for Jesus?
 • What are some things that will keep Him distant?
 • Is the busyness of Christmas preparations distracting you from fellowship with Him?
 • Are you keeping a humble heart and looking for ways to share Jesus with a lost and dying world?

Christmas is really a great time to reflect on your Christian walk and make sure that it is inline with the will of God.

How to Make Your Own Paper Snowflake Cards

Paper snowflakes make lovely winter and holiday decorations, and they can be incorporated into a variety of other crafts, such as decoupage. Paper snowflakes also make great embellishments for Christmas cards.

Here’s how to create a paper snowflake card that’s sure to be cherished for years to come.

What You Need

 • Plain white paper
 • Construction paper or colored card stock
 • Protractor
 • Pencil
 • Scissors
 • White craft glue
 • Glitter glue
 • Marker (optional)
 • Die cuts and other scrapbooking embellishments

Instructions

1. Fold the piece of white paper in half widthwise.

2. From the middle of the folded side, use the protractor to mark off 60- and 120-degree angles. Mark them very lightly with a pencil, making them just dark enough to see.

3. Fold the edges over to make two 60-degree folds. Cut off the edges of the paper to form an arc.

4. Cut designs into the paper. There’s no need to be too elaborate. Triangles, half circles and squares will be replicated and doubled due to the folds in the paper.

5. Carefully unfold the snowflake to avoid tearing it.

6. Fold a piece of construction paper or card stock in half. For best results, use a fairly dark color.

7. Glue the snowflake onto the outside of the card with white craft glue. Make sure that you either place the side with the pencil marks down or carefully erase them. Let the glue dry completely so that you don’t have to worry about the snowflake sliding out of place as you decorate the card.

8. Use the glitter glue to embellish the snowflake if you like.

9. Write your greeting onto the outside of the card using a marker or glitter glue. Let dry.

10. On the inside, use scrapbooking supplies to complete your design. You could print out a message in a pretty font using your computer’s word processing program and glue it to the inside, and create a nice border for it. Add some die cuts or stickers, ribbon and lace, and perhaps some pressed flowers in festive colors. Let glue dry completely before folding the card back together.

Tips

If you like, you could make several small snowflakes for each card. Just follow the original directions, using small rectangular pieces of paper instead of one large piece.

There’s no need to stop with the card. Why not add paper snowflakes to the envelope as well? They may come off in the mail, but if you’re delivering the card by hand, this adds a nice touch.

Bible Study Love: Endures All Things

***

“bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. ” 1 Corinthians 13:7 (NKJV)

Endure – to undergo (as a hardship) especially without giving in: Suffer

If I had to tell you how many times I have failed in my relationships, including my relationship with God, I would tell you it is too many to count.

Often in our relationships we get disappointed by others actions. We are all human, we all fail. We all have these expectations on everyone, including God, that also help in making us feel like a relationship has failed and we are disappointed.

But a lot of times we don’t realize that this life is about endurance. The most meaningful relationships are the ones that endured so many trials, pains and hurts.

When we love like Jesus we are less likely to run away from the situation, and instead endure through the trials and the pain.

Jesus’ love was about enduring pain. He knew before His death what pain He was going to endure, and He walked into it without a fight.

To often we are afraid of experiencing pain, and guard our hearts to real everlasting love. Simply because we are afraid of getting hurt again.

Jesus never guarded Himself from the pain He was going to endure, because he knew that love endures all things.

If we aren’t willing to endure through life then we may be missing out on all that God has to offer.

Assignment:

Journal your answers to the following: What is God asking you to endure? How can we show our love to God? Do we love God enough to endure through life, in order to fulfill His purpose, or do we just give up?

What is the History of Christmas?

There are differing opinions as to the origins of celebrating on December 25th. Some believe that the date of Christmas corresponded with the winter solstice.

Another thought is that December 25th corresponds with the Roman solar holiday Dies Natalis Solis Invicti (birthday of the unconquered Sun).

Others connect it with the Roman holy day Saturnalia, which was marked by gift giving, eating and drinking. Yule logs and trees are remnant from pagan traditions of Northern Europe.

Santa Claus is the beloved figure who visits homes on Christmas Eve and leaves presents for children. It is believed that this legend originated from St. Nicholas, a real person who lived in a Greek area, now located on the southern coast of Turkey. He was orphaned as a child and dedicated his life to serving God and is remembered for his care and concern for children and the poor.

Given the pagan origins of the Christmas holiday, what should a thoughtful Christian response be?

Nowhere in the Bible is it mentioned that we should remember the birth of Jesus. Instead, we are told to remember His death with communion. We also know that his birthday probably wasn’t December 25th. It is thought by some that his birth may have coincided with The Feast of Tabernacles, when He came to “tabernacle” with men.

Nonetheless, Christmas is a favorite holiday among many Christians. Glorious hymns and carols have been written to commemorate the birth of the Savior. Many families try to eschew the commercialism of the holiday and have meaningful celebrations focused on Jesus, with acts of love and service to family and community. Others celebrate the Feast of the Three Kings on January 6. Still others forgo Christmas entirely and choose to focus on the Biblical Holidays.

However you choose to celebrate Christmas, let the warmth of the season be a time inspired by Jesus.  Prayerfully seek out ways your family can serve God and help the needy. Make it a goal to change focus with the upcoming Christmas holiday from presents, parties, and food, to what really matters; family, friends, and giving.

How to Make a Recycled Plastic Bag Kite

On a windy day, there’s nothing more fun than flying a kite. But have you seen the prices on some of them? Kite flying can be quite an expensive hobby! Even the small, simple ones seem to cost more than they should.

If you want a kite but don’t want to pay a lot for it, you can easily make your own at home. Here’s how to do it:

Supplies

Plastic shopping bag
Scissors
Pen
Two flexible wooden sticks
Scotch tape
Ball of twine

Instructions

1. Lay the plastic bag on a hard surface and smooth it out flat. Fold it in half so that one handle is on top of the other, and smooth it out as much as possible.

2. Draw a line across the bottom of the bag, just above the bottom folds. Draw another line from the center of that line to the center of the bag, and draw another line from the center of the bag slanting up to the folded side of the bag at about a 45-degree angle.

3. Cut along the lines you drew. When finished, unfold the trapezoid-shaped piece.

4. Cut one of the sticks to the length of the kite from top to bottom. Center it carefully, and tape it in the center and at the tip. Stretch the plastic gently but firmly, and tape the stick at the bottom.

5. Place the end of the other stick on the left corner of the kite, slanting the stick upward. Tape the end to the corner.

6. Carefully bend the stick into an arch, making sure the arch is small enough that it doesn’t go over the edges of the kite. Tape at the other corner, and trim any excess.

7. Cut four strips of plastic from the scraps, making each about a foot long. Or, if you prefer, you could cut strips out of a bag of a different color.

8. Tie the strips together to make a tail. Tape it to the bottom of the kite at the center.

9. Cut a piece of twine about a foot long. Tie one end to one side of the bent stick, and the other end to the other side. This forms the kite’s bridle.

10. Poke a hole at the bottom of the kite, near the tail. Run the end of the twine through the hole, from the front to the back. Pull the bridle taut to form a triangle shape, and tie the end of the string to it.

11. Pull out as much twine as needed to fly your kite. For best results, do not cut the twine off of the ball.

12. Take your kite out on a windy day and try it out!

How to Choose the Right Bible Study Class?

One of the best ways to grow within our own faith is to join a Bible study class. There may be classes given through your own church, a local church, through an online community or blog, or even through the community or local library.

Bible studies can be on just about anything related to the Bible. Just two examples of many possibilities would be a Bible study on the book of Daniel or the book of Esther. With so many choices and possibilities, you may be wondering how to choose the best one for you.

Here are some tips and strategies that will hopefully make that decision just a little easier:

 • Decide what you are interested in. The Bible is a vast array of stories, faith, love, prophecies and other lessons. You must decide before joining a Bible study class what you are interested in. Have you always been drawn to the book of Revelations? Or maybe the book of Lamentations? If at all possible search out your interests first. If there is not a Bible study on that subject you may consider starting one of your own or venturing out to something new.

 • Join with a friend. If you have a close Christian friend, ask that person if he or she would be interested in joining you in the class. If we join any new experience with someone we trust, it makes the situation much more comfortable. Because of this, you are able to focus your attention to the task at hand, which is studying the Bible rather than wondering what everyone is thinking about you.

 • Remain committed. The Bible is a very intense and deep read. A Bible study is usually exactly the same way. At times you may feel overwhelmed and think that you are not getting anything from the teachings. Of course this is not true because as we all know that the Lord works in mysterious ways. Stick with it, open your heart and remain committed. Pray to the Lord to let the words become clearer to you and profess how committed you are to Him and the Bible study. If you are faithful to Him, He in return will be faithful to you and allow you to interpret the learning with much more ease.

 • Allow yourself to make a mistake. If you join a Bible study and after prayer and careful thought you feel that it is truly not the class for you, allow yourself to move on. The Lord wants you to grow in your faith and your relationship with Him. If you feel this Bible study is not assisting with that, you may want to seek out another Bible study. The purpose of a Bible study is to surround yourself with like minded people so you may study and learn from the Lord’s word. If you are not feeling fulfilled by your group then definitely visit another group. Keep at it until you find the one that you can truly open your heart to and remain committed to.

A Bible study class is one of the many tools we have to grow closer in our relationship with the Lord. By choosing a class carefully and staying devoted to the Lord and the teachings, we can only become more fulfilled and excited about our growing faith and devotion.

How to Make a Paper Scarecrow

Scarecrows can be helpful when you want to keep birds out of your garden. They’re also the inspiration for some whimsical fall crafts. Even small children can get in on the scarecrow craze with this simple paper scarecrow project.

What You Need

Card stock
Construction paper in a variety of colors
Pencil
White craft glue or glue stick
Magic markers
Googly eyes
Straw or raffia

Instructions

1. Draw a basic scarecrow template on card stock. If you’re not sure how to do it, try drawing a puffy “T” shape with a circle on top for the head.

2. Cut out the scarecrow template.

3. Using the pencil, draw clothes for your scarecrow on the construction paper. Use the template to ensure that they will fit correctly. You could make a shirt and overalls or a dress, and add accessories such as hats, gloves, shoes and more.

4. Cut out the clothes. Use markers to decorate them.

5. Draw a face on your scarecrow. Make small dots where you will put the eyes, then glue them on.

6. Glue the clothes onto your scarecrow. Let dry.

7. Glue straw or raffia under the bottom of sleeves and pants. You could also cut out a hat shape and glue straw to it to make a straw hat.

Tips

Find some small buttons to embellish your scarecrow with. Add them to shirts or overalls.

Place a stick-on magnet on the back of the scarecrow for easy display on the refrigerator.

Make a paper crow out of black construction paper. Cut feet and a beak out of yellow or orange paper, and add googly eyes.
Stick it on the scarecrow’s arm for added fun.

Embellish your scarecrow’s hat with some dried flowers.

Use Spanish moss to make hair for your scarecrow. Glue it around the head or under the hat.

Instead of drawing the nose on, you could glue on a pom pom or a construction paper triangle. For the mouth, you could use a chenille stem.

Consider making some patches for your scarecrow’s clothes. Simply cut squares out of contrasting colors of construction paper and glue them on randomly.

If you want your scarecrow to last for years to come, use only card stock and construction paper to make it. Then laminate it and cut away the excess plastic, leaving ¼ inch around the edges to maintain the seal.

If you prefer, you could make the scarecrow’s clothing out of patterned scrapbooking paper or wallpaper scraps. You may need to glue these types of paper to card stock first to make them sturdier.

My Thanksgiving Theme: It’s About Giving What You Want to Receive

About a week ago I purchased a new vacuum cleaner. I was so excited when I finally received it in the mail that I put it together that night. It was pretty simple to put together, and once it was together I started vacuuming my entire house. My hope, and prayer, was that this vacuum cleaner would make my carpets beautiful.

I really hated vacuuming with my old vacuum cleaner because it never got my carpets cleaned, I felt like all my efforts to clean my carpet was a failure. I hated the feeling that my efforts, and hard work, didn’t make that much of a difference.

However with my new vacuum cleaner I certainly don’t feel like that. It’s awesome. Now, it’s not a miracle worker. I still need to get my carpet’s steam cleaned, but I am thankful that it does the job it does. It really does make a difference.

Lately I have been feeling like my actions, efforts, and words of encouragement in this life haven’t been making much of a difference in anyone’s life. Just when I think I’ve finally made a difference, my 11 year old kindly reminds me with her actions that I really haven’t arrived, just yet. Kids are really good at keeping you humble, wouldn’t you say? Especially those pre-teens, and teenagers (haha!)

So I have been finding myself obsessed with vacuuming. It started the night I first vacuumed with my new vacuum cleaner, the moment I felt like my efforts paid off, I was hooked. I’ve been vacuuming everyday. Whenever I look at my vacuum cleaner I feel a sigh of relief, and a sense of excitement when it’s time to vacuum the house. I am motivated.

For a few days, this really freaked me out! I couldn’t understand WHY I was so motivated to vacuum, even more than reading the Bible and working on my Bible Study. I wanted to vacuum, and I was so disappointed when I had reached the final moments of vacuuming my floors. It really started to bother me, so I prayed “Why do I love vacuuming so much, God?”

I finally figured it out today after my Bible Study group met. It’s the sense of accomplishment I feel when I vacuum, and SEEING the difference I am making, that’s really motivating me.

Life can really be difficult at times. It’s hard to evangelize when so many people reject the word of God. It’s hard to raise your children when they continue to disobey you. I mean life can really make you feel small, like your efforts mean nothing.

But today I asked myself….”How many times have YOU expressed your appreciation for those that have made a difference in your life?” — My answer…I don’t even know.

I’ve decided that my Thanksgiving theme is going to be giving others what I need. And right now that’s just a word saying “You have made a difference in my life.” Because there have been SO many people in my life that have made such an awesome difference in my life, and I’m sure they don’t even know it. Which breaks my heart, because so many of them have continued on serving God without any real feedback from those around them. My goal this week is to give them feedback, and let them know that their life matters!

In my Bible Study today our leader recommended we pick a theme for Thanksgiving. At the time I had no idea what she was talking about. I was just like OK, my theme is to be thankful. But I am so grateful that God revealed a theme to me. I highly recommend you ask God to give you a theme for Thanksgiving. Please don’t expect it to be a theme where people serve you, the life God has given us is a life of sacrifice. We have already been served when Jesus died on the cross. Right now it is our turn to serve those around us.

I pray you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I would like to ask for your prayers, that I do the things God has asked me to do this Thanksgiving. And I of course will pray for God to reveal His theme for you.

Is There a Right or Wrong Way to Study the Bible?

As a Christian it is always our goal to continue to grow in our relationship with the Lord. This is accomplished by attending church, surrounding your self with like-minded people and studying your Bible. When you start studying the Bible you may wonder if there is a right or a wrong way to study the Bible. There really are no rules to studying the Bible, but these are a few suggestions to help you grow in your walk with the Lord through the words written in your Bible.

 • Start the journey slowly. Studying the Bible can be a bit overwhelming at first glance. Start out slowly. Attempt a passage each day in your Bible. Pray to the Lord to take you in the direction that He wishes and read the part of the Bible that you are drawn to. Pray about what you have just read and ask God to lead you to its interpretation. It is not recommended to read the Bible for hours on end. There is a lot of information to absorb and understand. Open your heart and take it slowly, at least at the beginning.

 • Always incorporate prayer when studying your Bible. It is extremely commendable that you want to grow closer to the Lord by reading his words. Remember though this is not a summer novel by any means. Always pray before, during and after studying the Bible. Begin by thanking the Lord for His words and allowing you the opportunity to read them. While reading and attempting to interpret God’s word, pray that He will make the message and the words become clearer so you can learn from them. Lastly, when you are through, thank Him for this time that the two of you had together and all that you have learned. Without prayer you will become frustrated in attempting to interpret what you are reading.

 • Stay committed. Though our lives can be extremely hectic and overwhelming, stay committed to spending time with God’s word preferably on a daily basis. Those of us who read the Bible haphazardly or when we get a free moment do not get as much from the words than those who make reading a priority. God should always be first in our lives, over everything and everyone. If we can heed this rule everyone in our lives will benefit, as the Lord will bless us for being His faithful and loving servant.

 • Understand that you are always learning. No one “masters” the Bible. We are always learning and growing in God’s word. To the point that we may interpret a passage one way and then read it shortly thereafter and interpret it an entirely different way. Whether we have been committed to reading the Bible for years or have just begun our journey, we must always keep our hearts open to the different teachings the Lord is attempting to convey to us at any given moment.

There is no right or wrong way to read the Bible. The important thing is that we do take time to read it! Just always remember to keep your heart open, remain in prayer and thank the Lord for all that He has given you.

How to Make a Nature Bracelet

Nature holds all sorts of treasures just waiting to be discovered. From flowers to pine cones to interesting pebbles, you can find numerous objects of beauty on a single trip out of doors. Simply looking for such items is a great activity for the family.

Kids enjoy finding interesting things when they’re outside. And they often want to bring some of them home. But once they get them in their rooms, they often end up in the bottom of a drawer somewhere or get lost. Making a nature bracelet is a nice way to enjoy the treasures they find and display them for all to see.

This project isn’t meant to last a lifetime. But it’s a great way for children to show off their findings for a while and keep them all together. And it’s so easy that even toddlers can do it.

Supplies

Wide masking tape
Small items found in nature

Instructions

1. Before going outside, wrap a loop of the masking tape around your child’s wrist, with the sticky side out. Make it large enough that it can slide off but small enough that it will stay put. If she is right handed, wrap it around her left wrist, and if she’s left handed, wrap it around her right wrist.

2. Go on a nature walk. The woods is one of the best places to find items for a nature bracelet. But if there are no woods nearby, try the local park or your back yard.

3. Help your child find small items such as flowers or flower petals, leaves, bark, feathers and small pebbles. Then she can stick them on her bracelet.

4. If you can take nature walks on a regular basis, you might consider making a themed bracelet each time you go out. Your child could look for feathers one day, small flowers the next time, and so on.

This simple activity is also quite educational. Kids can learn about different kinds of plants and rocks. And for younger children, it can help develop both gross and fine motor skills. The sights, sounds and smells experienced along the way provide lots of sensory stimulation as well.

Even after your outing is over, the bracelet can still provide learning opportunities for your child. When she shows it to someone, she can exercise her language skills by describing the things on it and telling where and how she found them. You might even encourage her to draw pictures of what took place and write a story about it.

Making a nature bracelet is very easy, and it’s lots of fun for both children and their parents. And if you’re on a budget, you’ll be happy to know that can make lots of them without spending lots of money. So the next time the kids get bored on a nice, sunny day, grab the masking tape and head outdoors!

Bible Study Love: Bears All Things

“bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. ” 1 Corinthians 13:7 (NKJV)

Do we really know what it means to “bear all things?” We often think that bearing a burden is of course the right Christian thing to do. But truth be told it is probably one of the most difficult things to do, simply because it requires us to put aside our own emotions and feelings in order to care for someone else.

When we truly love someone we need to learn to be there for them whatever trials they are going through. This includes your husband, children, family, and even your brothers and sisters in Christ or strangers.

If your husband, children, or family members are caught up in sin, then you need to pray for them until they are healed from that sin. Walking away from them, or ignoring their sin is not what love is about.

Don’t get me wrong. This is not to say that if you are in a dangerous situation you should stay in that situation. However you can still pray for that person, and bear their burden from a distance.

Bearing all things means sticking by the one’s you love and encouraging them even if you are frustrated with them. It is doing what’s right, especially when we don’t feel like it, because you love them and you want to honor God.

Giving up on a loved one, or even yourself or God, simply because you are frustrated is not true love.

Jesus loved everyone, and had a special place in His heart for the sinner. What did Jesus do in the presence of sinners? He forgave them, stood up for them, He even washed their feet. Most importantly He gave His life for the sinner.

Jesus is the ultimate example of what it means to “bear all things” in order to show His love for us, and for the Father. Bearing all things will certainly require sacrifice, it will be painful, and it will include dying to your flesh. However when we bear each others burdens we are loving those around us the way Jesus showed His love to the world.

Sometimes we can get so caught up in how the other persons problem is making us feel that we forget to consider THEIR own personal struggle.

Assignment:

Define the word “Bear”

Journal the following:

~ Is there a relationship in your life where you have been blocking out their problems because it is too painful for you?

Often when someone else is committing a sin, or is going through a rough patch, we simply tell them what’s wrong with them, but we do not ask how we can help them get through the difficult time. My challenge for you is to listen more, and really try to show compassion for the struggle they are facing.

~ Where would you be today if Jesus turned His back on you instead of having love & compassion towards you? How has His love changed your life? How can you share that love with others, especially those around you that are struggling and hurting?

5 Tips for Studying the Bible

Have you made a deep, heartfelt decision to come closer to the Lord? You are attending a Christ-filled church on a regular basis, you are surrounding yourself with good Christian people and you are reading your Bible every day. Have you wondered though if you are getting the most out of your Bible reading? You pick up the good book each and every day, but maybe you should be getting more from studying the Bible so diligently.

Here are 5 tips to incorporate into your Bible studies to get as much as you can from the Lord’s words.

 1. Make sure it is quiet. Remember this is a time for just you and your Lord. The television should not be on, the phone should not be ringing and the children should not be at foot. You will want a place of peace and quiet so you are able to connect with the word of God and hear what he is trying to bring into your heart. Do not confuse this with prayer. Prayer can be done anytime and anywhere. When you are trying to study and interpret God’s word it will be much more beneficial if you are in a quiet location.

 2. Have a schedule. If at all possible, try and stick to a Bible reading schedule. Of course there are times when the Lord will draw us to a certain part of the Bible and we must obey His wishes. Other than that, you can stick to a “Read the Bible in a year” schedule or something similar to that. This will allow you to focus all your attention on a certain portion of the Bible, allowing you ample time to interpret and bring it into your heart.

 3. Don’t overwhelm yourself. Let’s face it, the Bible would not be considered a “light” read and it takes some getting used to. Don’t try and read the Bible as if it was a novel. Take each passage and meditate and pray over it. If the Lord has a special message that He needs to convey to you and your heart you must allow Him to do just that. If you try and digest a large amount at one time, you will also miss a lot of the true meaning behind what you are reading. Take it slow and truly get everything you can out of the Lord’s words.

 4. Choose the right Bible. There are many translations of the Good Book. Some of them are easier to interpret then others. If this is your first time truly trying to come closer to the Lord through His word, a study Bible may be your best solution. A study Bible literally explains everything that you are reading. It explains the passages origin, who is speaking the words, who they are being spoken to or who they are about, and most importantly why. If you are just beginning your Bible studies this will be a great tool in getting all you can from your readings. After you feel more comfortable you can move on to one of the many other translations of the Bible instead.

 5. Be committed. Making a promise to the Lord to study His word is a big commitment. Make sure that your heart is truly committed to seeing this promise through. Don’t get discouraged, as sometimes the Bible can seem extremely overwhelming. Take your time, open your heart and keep reading. If your heart is open to the word of the Lord, you will hear the Lord speak to you in many aspects of your life. Stay strong and keep reading. You will never regret your decision to do so.

Reading the Bible and studying the Lord’s word can change your life in more ways than one. Try to implement the tips and strategies mentioned above and hopefully you will begin to see positive changes in your life, as you grow closer to the Lord through His words in the Bible.

Beautiful Color Dyes Don’t Have to Be Poisons – Natural Eco-Friendly Dyes Explained

Fabric dyes are readily available in any craft store, and in most grocery and discount stores. They’re convenient and easy to use, whether you’re tie dyeing a t-shirt or dyeing your curtains to match your new furniture. But did you know that they can be quite dangerous?

Most dyes today are made from chemicals. They usually contain ingredients such as pigments and soaps. Some even contain poisonous ingredients such as corrosive alkali, which can cause acute health problems if inhaled or swallowed. Some types of synthetic dyes are known to cause allergic reactions in some individuals, and some have even been linked to cancer. And the factories that make such dyes often create huge amounts of pollution.

All of this is enough to make one want to give up dyeing fabrics, and possibly even stop wearing anything that has been dyed. But that’s not necessary. There are natural dyes available that have little or no impact on our health and the environment. These dyes have many advantages, including:

* They are made from renewable materials. Most are derived from plants, which grow back or can be replanted. This means that the impact on the environment is minimal.

* Natural dyes are less likely to cause an allergic reaction. It is certainly possible to be allergic to natural products, but chemical dyes are notorious for causing rashes and other undesirable effects.

* Natural dyes are non-carcinogenic. You don’t have to worry about breathing in the fumes from them. You will need to wear gloves when working with them, but only to keep your hands from being dyed!

* The wastes produced when making natural dyes are not harmful to the environment. These materials existed in nature to start with, so they do not create the devastating effects that chemical wastes do.

* Natural dyes have subtle variations that add character to the finished product. Synthetic dyes, on the other hand, are produced to be as uniform as possible.

Most of the dyes you find in stores are synthetic chemical dyes. But more natural alternatives have become available in recent years. And as more people learn of the benefits of natural dyes, they should become more readily available.

It’s also possible to make your own natural dyes. It takes time and some practice, but it’s really not that difficult. You can make vibrant color dyes using flowers, berries, bark and more. All you have to do is put the material in water and simmer for about an hour. Strain out the solids, and your dye is ready to use. You’ll need to use a color fixative, but these are easily made with salt or vinegar and water.

Natural dyes are much safer than the chemical ones we’ve become accustomed to. And they come in a variety of beautiful colors. They’re easy to use, and to make if you choose to do so.

How Can Studying the Bible Bring Me Closer to God?

A Bible study class is a group of individuals coming together on a regular basis to read and study the Bible. Certain parts or passages may be discussed and the topic may change weekly. In retrospect the topic may not change and the same subject may be focused on for an extended period of time. Bible study classes may be offered through your own church, a local church and sometimes can even be found through a community center or a local library or organization, or through an online blog or community.

The goal of these classes is to bring like-minded people together to discuss and interpret the Bible. They are beneficial for a variety of reasons. They promote friendship, discussion and understanding of the Lord’s word.

It is important to use discretion when choosing a Bible Study class, you want it to be surrounded by people who share your beliefs so you can grow and mature in God’s word. It should be a time of comfort and peace, not conflict. It may also be a good idea to obtain a suggestion from a trusted friend who previously attended a Bible study, or even take the Bible study with the friend instead of by yourself. This will not only allow you to become closer to the Lord, but to strengthen the relationship with that trusted friend as well.

So, you may be wondering how taking a simple class will bring you closer to the Lord. The Bible as you already know is the words of the Lord. When you study His word, your relationship and bond become deeper and stronger. You learn more about faith, love, devotion and how to be a better Christian.

If you practice this with an open heart and ask the Lord to enter your heart, He will fill it with love, hope and faith and a host of other wonderful blessings. You will begin to develop a tie that will never be broken and you will be on your journey to living a Christian life. This is a life that the Lord will be proud of you for accomplishing. You will begin to live your life according to His word, the words written in the Bible. Each and every day you will pray and ask for His guidance and He will lead you in the right direction.

The Bible is an extremely powerful book and the Lord works through it in very mysterious ways. All He asks from us in return to have faith and be devoted to Him, to make the Lord the number one priority in your life. We must believe in our soul that Jesus died for our sins so that we may have everlasting life.

Can you imagine all the benefits we reap by opening our heart to God’s word? What a wonderful Lord we have! You too can begin this indescribable experience, by studying the words of God with an open and willing heart. This is how you begin your path to becoming closer to God.

Whether you choose to study your Bible with a Bible study class or by yourself, you can be promised a life changing experience. You will develop a bond and a closer relationship with the Lord that can never be severed. Open your heart and invite him into your life sooner rather than later, you will be so glad you did.
